- ABOUT THE ROLE
- Join the City of Sandy Springs Community Development team and play a pivotal role in shaping how our city grows. The Zoning Plan Reviewer ensures that new developments and site plans—both residential and commercial—comply with zoning regulations, technical standards, and community design goals. This position offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the city’s built environment through expert review, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Reporting to the Planning and Zoning Manager or Senior Planner, you’ll review site plans, assist with permit applications, interpret zoning codes, and communicate with property owners, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure each project aligns with city regulations and vision.

- WHAT YOU’LL DO
- * Review and approve zoning site plans for commercial, residential, accessory structures, temporary uses, and other assigned projects.
- * Verify zoning classifications and ensure compliance with ordinances, existing zoning conditions, or DRI requirements.
- * Review subdivision plats and confirm zoning compliance.
- * Interpret and apply state, county, and local regulations to ensure consistency and quality control.
- * Draft correspondence or contact applicants for additional plan information to support timely and accurate approvals.
- * Enter approvals, documentation, and permit data into the Energov system.
- * Assist the Zoning Manager and team with code interpretation and land use inquiries.
- * Collaborate with engineers, architects, builders, property owners, and developers regarding permit submissions.
- * Support the public as Planner of the Day (POD), answering zoning and land-use questions by phone or in person.
- * Attend Thursday developer meetings and provide technical assistance.
- * Partner with GIS staff to maintain accurate zoning classification data.

- WHAT YOU BRING
Minimum Qualifications
- * High School Diploma or equivalent.
- * At least 3 years of experience in site plan review, zoning, land use, or related fields.
- * Strong knowledge of zoning practices, land-use principles, and planning laws.
- * Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database management tools.
- * Familiarity with codes, ordinances, and technical plan notation.
- * Strong analytical and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- * College degree in planning, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- * Experience with architectural or engineering plan review, zoning ordinance implementation, or surveying.
- * Strong understanding of land development terminology.
- * Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and collaborate effectively across teams.

- WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position involves both office work and occasional field visits. Physical tasks may include lifting up to 20 pounds and working outdoors in various weather conditions. You’ll spend extended periods at a workstation and interact directly with the public and development professionals.
