  • About the Position
  • RedTown Technical Services, LLC is seeking an experienced Weather Observer to provide professional meteorological services at Imperial Beach, CA. This role supports U.S. Navy aviation operations through accurate, timely, and mission-focused weather observations. The candidate should be aware this part-time position is considered temporary, but there is potential to become permanent. The position is immediately available, with the actual start date being determined by the candidate’s background check status and CAC processing requirements. The weekly schedule will vary, but all shifts assigned will be performed during the regular work week (M-F) and between the hours of 0700-2230. There will be no weekends or holidays assigned.
  • The Weather Observer performs meteorological weather watch consisting of taking, evaluating, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations (METAR/SPECI); Responding to PMSV; and dissemination of PIREPs.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Performs Meteorological Weather Watch, taking, evaluating, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observations
  • Operates the Pilot to Metro Service
  • Monitors radar and satellite imagery
  • Receives and disseminates PIREPs
  • Compensation Details
  • Observer rate: $33.23/hour
  • Health & Welfare: $6.25/hour (up to 40 hours/week)
  • Night and Sunday differential compounded to base pay
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Obtain and maintain eligibility for a DoD CAC
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a certified weather observer with the Department of Defense (DoD). Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service.
  • Must have completed a DoD formal training program for weather observing or equivalent National Weather Service program. Must provide proof of completion.
  • Visual acuity correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contacts
  • Demonstrate sufficient ability to operate all meteorological and communications equipment required for certification
  • Speak, read, and understand English, and communicate well
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Persons currently holding an active Navy CAC or having an active security clearance within the past 2-years
  • Experience operating the Automated Service Operating System (ASOS)
  • Physical and Mental Requirements
  • The selected candidate will work solo in an office type atmosphere. Meals are taken in conjunction with the shift and candidates will have access to a refrigerator, microwave, and limited vending machines. The workload will vary and may be stressful at times when bad weather is present. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate can expect to be exposed to the weather elements on a regular basis and may be required to climb stairs.
