Vice President, Head of Oncology Portfolio & Alliance Strategy Location: Princeton Pike, NJ Reporting To: SVP, Head of Medical Oncology Position Summary Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a bold and strategic leader to serve as Head of Oncology Portfolio & Alliance Strategy. This global role is responsible for driving BMS’s cross-portfolio oncology medical strategy through high-impact external partnerships. You will shape where we play, how we win, and how we collaborate with a focus on ensuring that innovation from across the world enhances our early- and late-stage oncology pipeline. Reporting to the SVP, Head of Medical Oncology, this leader will oversee a dedicated team and act as the medical strategy lead for all major external collaborations spanning academia, industry, public-private alliances, and medical societies. This is a high-visibility role central to BMS’s mission of delivering transformative cancer medicines through best-in-class partnerships. Key Responsibilities Strategic Portfolio Leadership - Input into the cross-portfolio medical strategy for oncology by integrating external trends, emerging science, and competitive intelligence. - Identify priority tumor types, modalities, and innovation areas in collaboration with Disease Area Heads to inform strategic decisions. - Ensure external collaborations align with BMS’s long-term oncology goals and leverage cutting-edge scientific advancements such as AI, next-gen cell therapies, and novel diagnostics. Proven experience leveraging and/or implementing, AI-driven insights and digital tools to enhance customer engagement strategies, optimize HCP/patient experience, and drive data-informed commercial decision-making. Alliance Development & Management - Build and execute a unified alliance strategy across the oncology portfolio, covering research, development, and commercialization stages. - Serve as medical executive sponsor or co-lead for high-value alliances, driving strategy, execution, and ongoing value creation. - Lead medical integration for new deals and partnerships, including governance structure, medical planning, and internal alignment. - Define and oversee performance metrics (KPIs, milestones) for all major partnerships to ensure accountability and impact. - Source and engage external advisors to inform medical strategy, portfolio prioritization, and deal evaluation. External Representation & Collaboration - Represent BMS in high-impact global consortia and partnerships (e.g., SPARC, ASCO, ESMO). - Build and sustain academic and medical society partnerships to advance external innovation and elevate BMS’s scientific leadership. - Forge relationships with patient advocacy organizations to embed patient perspectives into portfolio strategy and medical planning. - Speak on behalf of BMS Oncology at key external forums and serve as the company’s thought leader across alliances. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration - Lead and develop a high-performing team of alliance and strategy professionals. - Act as a connector across Medical, R&D, Commercial, BD, Legal, and Regulatory to ensure partnership success and portfolio alignment. - Embed best practices in alliance governance, integration, and knowledge-sharing across the organization. Qualifications - MD, PhD, or equivalent scientific background in oncology required; MBA or proven business acumen preferred. - 10+ years of leadership experience in biopharma, including roles in R&D, Medical Affairs, Business Development, or Alliance Management. - Deep expertise in oncology drug development (early and late stage), scientific strategy, and external innovation. - Proven success in forming and managing strategic alliances across academia, industry, and public-private sectors. - Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influence skills at the executive and partner level. - Experience managing high-performing, cross-functional teams in a matrixed global environment. The starting compensation for this job is a range from $326,660K USD - $395,900K USD plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
