- POSITION SUMMARY
 
- DEFINITION
 - Under the general direction of the Radiology Director, performs all ultrasound examinations in the care and services of patients in an acute care facility. Performs other related work as required.
 
- POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be
- Education
 - High school or equivalent supplemented by completion of a recognized 18-month ultrasound program.
 
- Experience
 - A minimum of six months clinical experience while training is required. One year of experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
 
- Licensure/Certification
 - BLS certification (AHA Only)
 - ARDMS certification required
 
- KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
 
Knowledge of
- Cross sectional anatomy
 - Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.
 - The more common ultrasound equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting.
 
Ability to
- Apply aseptic and sterile techniques.
 - Learn quickly the specific operations of a Radiology Department.
 - Apply principles of medical sonography in the imaging and interpretation of patient examinations.
 - Understand and follow oral and written directions.
 - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, physicians and fellow employees.
 - Work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.
 - Maintain records.
 - Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.
 
- AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCY
 - Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
