  • POSITION SUMMARY
  • DEFINITION
  • Under the general direction of the Radiology Director, performs all ultrasound examinations in the care and services of patients in an acute care facility. Performs other related work as required.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be

  • Education
  • High school or equivalent supplemented by completion of a recognized 18-month ultrasound program.
  • Experience
  • A minimum of six months clinical experience while training is required. One year of experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification
  • BLS certification (AHA Only)
  • ARDMS certification required
  • KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Knowledge of

  • Cross sectional anatomy
  • Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.
  • The more common ultrasound equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting.

Ability to

  • Apply aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Learn quickly the specific operations of a Radiology Department.
  • Apply principles of medical sonography in the imaging and interpretation of patient examinations.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, physicians and fellow employees.
  • Work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.
  • Maintain records.
  • Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.

  • Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
