Position Summary
- The Association of Village Council Presidents (AVCP) is seeking an Emergency Hire Donations Coordinator to lead donation management and logistics operations in response to Typhoon Halong. This position will coordinate the collection, organization, and air transport of donated goods to affected villages throughout the AVCP region.
- The Coordinator will supervise a team of volunteers and collaborate with aviation partners, tribal leadership, and local response teams to ensure supplies reach communities efficiently and equitably. The ideal candidate is a proactive and organized leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is dedicated to supporting Alaska Native communities in times of need.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee intake, sorting, and tracking of all donated goods.
- Supervise and train volunteers assisting with donation handling, packaging, and labeling.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donation inventory records.
- Ensure donations are organized for efficient packing, transport, and distribution.
- Coordinate the air transport of donations to villages impacted by Typhoon Halong.
- Develop and maintain flight manifests and delivery schedules.
- Communicate with pilots, carriers, and logistics staff to ensure timely and safe deliveries.
- Liaise with village leadership to confirm delivery needs and verify receipt of supplies.
- Recruit, schedule, and oversee volunteer teams supporting donation operations.
- Provide direction, training, and oversight to maintain efficiency and safety.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and culturally respectful environment for all volunteers.
- Serve as a contact for donors, partners, and community organizations contributing supplies.
- Coordinate acknowledgment and communication with donors alongside AVCP’s communications team.
- Prepare and present daily reports on donations received, distributed, and pending.
- Work closely with the Program Manager, tribal leadership, and state, volunteer, and AVCP programs.
- Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to logistics planning.
- Assist with other emergency response and recovery activities as assigned.
- Requirements
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience in logistics, volunteer management, emergency response, or nonprofit operations.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in logistics coordination, supply chain management, or volunteer supervision.
- Experience in emergency response or community disaster relief preferred.
- Familiarity with rural Alaska, aviation logistics, or tribal governance is highly desirable.
Skills
- Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and team coordination skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and spreadsheet/data tracking tools.
- Ability to remain flexible and composed under pressure.
- Commitment to teamwork and cultural sensitivity in serving Alaska Native communities.
Working Conditions
- This position requires work in both office and warehouse environments.
- Must be able to lift and move boxes or supplies up to 40 lbs as needed.
- May require extended hours or weekend work during peak emergency response periods.
- Occasional exposure to variable weather conditions while working in hangar or loading areas.
