• POSITION SUMMARY

• DEFINITION
• Under supervision, to transport patients and materials to various destinations inside of medical facilities; provides patient and family education regarding transfer techniques to be utilized in the post-hospital setting, as appropriate; and do other work as required.

• POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Completion of a recognized training program in basic patient care preferred.

• Experience
• No experience required; six (6) months preferred

• Licensure/Certification
• Current BLS required (through AHA only).

• KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Knowledge of

• Medical terminology
• Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.

Ability to

• Read, write, and speak the English language
• Learn the principles, methods, and procedures of proper patient care.
• Learn medical facility routines and techniques.
• Perform patient care in an understanding and sympathetic manner.
• Follow oral and written directions.
• Apply proper body mechanics in lifting and moving at least 100 pounds.
• Handle patients in a manner, which will not aggravate their condition
• Train inexperienced employees in proper transportation procedures.
• Use good judgement when acting independent of supervisory guidance.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
• Work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.

• Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
