Position Summary

We are looking for a Level 3 Cadaveric Tissue Recovery Technician to serve as a subject matter expert and leader within our tissue recovery and processing team. This role is responsible for overseeing complex procedures and ensuring departmental compliance. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of human anatomy, surgical techniques, and regulatory requirements, and will be capable of independent problem-solving and critical decision-making in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Recovery Operations: Surgically retrieve/recover postmortem tissues, acting as the primary on-site expert for complex cases, including multi-organ/multi-tissue procurements.
  • Aseptic Technique: Using sterile techniques to recover tissues, ensuring they are safe for transplant and preventing infection.
  • Compliance Oversight: Serve as a departmental lead for compliance, conducting internal audits, ensuring all SOPs are followed, and preparing for external inspections by the AATB and FDA.
  • Product Development: Assist in the development and improvement of product lines.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to existing processes to enhance efficiency, safety, and tissue quality.
  • Documentation Review: Conduct thorough reviews of all donor and processing documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all regulations. Meticulously document every step of the recovery process for accurate and complete records.
  • Equipment Management: Manage the maintenance, calibration, and validation of all recovery and processing equipment.

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a life science (e.g., biology, anatomy, or a related field) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Cadaveric Tissue Recovery Technician, with a proven history of excellence in all aspects of tissue recovery and processing.
  • Certifications: Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) from the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be comfortable working in a laboratory setting with exposure to biological samples and chemical reagents.
  • Occasional lifting of lab equipment or materials up to 25 lbs may be required.
  • May involve extended periods standing or using laboratory equipment.
  • Must be able to work a full-time schedule (Monday-Friday) out of our Playa Vista office location. However, there may be times where the schedule will be on-call in order to be available when a donor's family consents.
  • Reliable transportation is required, as this role may commute to different locations for tissue recovery.

  • $30.00/hour- $41.00/hour (based on experience)
