We are seeking a Systems Engineer who thrives on solving complex packaging challenges and is eager to contribute to new product development, process integration, and commercialization opportunities. The Systems Engineer will be the technical integrator across packaging components — thermoformed blisters, printed cards, and sealing systems — ensuring they function together as complete retail packaging solutions. This individual will focus on understanding customer intent through strong discovery, designing with manufacturability and performance in mind, and coordinating across design, tooling, and production systems. By combining technical expertise with critical thinking, the Systems Engineer will play a central role in bringing innovative packaging solutions from concept through production launch. What you’ll be doing: Lead the systems-level design and development of retail thermoform packaging solutions, ensuring integration of plastics, printed blister cards, and sealing tooling. Conduct strong discovery with customers and stakeholders to fully capture requirements, brand intent, and performance expectations. Translate customer needs into robust system designs, specifications, and validation criteria. Apply critical thinking to evaluate risks, identify opportunities, and develop creative, manufacturable solutions. Support sales by pricing different options of Seal tooling Support tooling design, sealing equipment setup, and process validation across thermoforming and heat-seal systems. Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Quality to ensure packaging systems meet technical, functional, and commercial requirements. Drive continuous improvement in system design standards, material compatibility, and production efficiency. Maintain strong awareness of industry trends, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory requirements in retail packaging. Prepare technical documentation including system specifications, drawings, and validation reports. Grow into a leadership role by taking on larger system-level projects, mentoring team members, and helping shape Alloyd’s technical strategy This is an 100% onsite position based out of DeKalb, IL Facility We’d love to hear from you if: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2–5 years of experience in packaging engineering, thermoforming, or systems integration preferred (retail packaging experience a strong plus). Strong knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks or similar). Understanding of thermoformed plastics, printed packaging components, and heat-seal tooling/equipment. Excellent problem-solving, discovery, and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
