Project Overview We are seeking an experienced nonfiction editor to provide a structural/line edit of a completed 57,000-word manuscript. The manuscript has been fully drafted by the author with the assistance of AI tools and has undergone several rounds of self-editing. At this stage, we want an editor to focus on big-picture elements (flow, logic, clarity, and readability) while also checking for consistency, tone, and accuracy. We will provide a positioning statement, including details of the intended audience, reader goals, and the book’s positioning message, to help guide your editorial approach. Scope of Work The editing should focus on: Narrative flow & organization: Ensure ideas are presented logically, transitions are smooth, and content builds coherently. Clarity & readability: Improve phrasing, tone, and word choice for maximum engagement. Consistency: Voice, point of view, tense, and terminology across the manuscript. Argument & logic (nonfiction): Strengthen the reasoning, eliminate contradictions, and identify any missing links in the argument. Completeness: Confirm all promised topics are adequately addressed. Redundancy check: Identify and reduce repetition. Fact-checking: Verify accuracy of key facts, statistics, and references. Plagiarism screening: Provide a plagiarism score (if possible). Technical elements: Grammar, spelling, formatting consistency, and reference checking (ensuring citation style and reference list match). Key Responsibilities Deliver detailed editorial feedback on both structure and line-level issues. Suggest revisions for improving flow, coherence, and readability. Collaborate with us to preserve the author’s unique voice and vision while strengthening the manuscript. Flag any unclear, incomplete, or redundant sections. Ensure alignment with audience expectations and genre conventions. Ideal Candidate Experienced in nonfiction book editing (please share relevant samples or references). Skilled at balancing big-picture structural editing with line-level refinements. Comfortable fact-checking and verifying references. Strong communicator—able to provide constructive, encouraging feedback. Budget & Timeline Budget: $500 USD for the initial structural/line edit. Timeline: We are flexible but ideally looking for a 3-4 week turnaround for this scale of project. Please indicate your availability.
