Position Summary

  • The Sterilization Technician is responsible for ensuring all dental instruments, equipment, and treatment areas are properly cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, and maintained according to OSHA, CDC, and office protocols. This role plays a key part in maintaining patient safety, infection control standards, and supporting clinical staff with daily operational needs.
  • Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments and equipment using ultrasonic cleaners, autoclaves, and other sterilization devices.
  • Properly package, label, and store sterilized instruments and maintain organized instrument trays.
  • Monitor and document sterilization cycles, biological spore tests, and maintenance logs in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sterilization room, lab, and instrument storage areas.
  • Prepare operatories before and after procedures, including disinfecting surfaces and restocking supplies.
  • Manage inventory of sterilization supplies and notify appropriate personnel when items need reordering.
  • Assist clinical staff with setup and breakdown of treatment rooms as needed.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols (OSHA, CDC, and state regulatory guidelines).
  • Properly handle hazardous and biohazard waste in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in a dental or medical sterilization setting preferred, but not required (will train the right candidate).
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and sterilization equipment is a plus.
  • Current CPR certification is preferred.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accuracy in documentation.

Work Environment

  • This position primarily works in the sterilization and clinical areas of the office, with exposure to cleaning chemicals, biohazardous materials, and sterilization equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn according to safety standards.
