This is a long-term, intermediate-level position ideal for a journalism graduate, a freelance writer looking to build a serious portfolio or someone seeking steady, flexible income working remotely. You will be responsible for researching and writing engaging news articles for our website, based on court cases and crime incidents in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest in general. We prioritize clarity, factual accuracy and a neutral news tone. Slight coaching is assumed, and you'll likely learn the ropes quickly. The Role & Responsibilities: - Write News, Not Opinions: Draft informative articles (approx. 300–600 words) based on breaking news or trending topics. - Research: Verify facts, dates, and names quickly to ensure accuracy. - SEO Basics: Write catchy (but honest) headlines and structure content with proper subheaders. - Speed: News moves FAST. We need writers who can turn around assignments efficiently while maintaining quality. Getting the confirmed info out there first can mean a huge leg up on monetization. Who You Are: - US-Based: You must reside in the United States and have native-level English fluency. - Reliable: You hit deadlines. If you say you’ll have it done by 2 PM, it’s done by 2 PM. - Coachability: You are open to editorial feedback to align with our style guide. - Experience: Previous experience writing news or journalistic content is preferred, but strong writing samples can make up for a lack of formal experience. The Details: - Rate: $8.00 - $14.00/hr (Potential for rate increase based on performance and reliability after 3 months, also based on AdSense performance on your articles (if it's higher, you'll get more). - Volume: Consistent weekly workload (approx. 20/week). - Byline: You will receive a byline on your articles, making this excellent for building your public portfolio.
