The Senior Engineer supports our Purpose by providing engineering support for specialized aircraft, engine, and component repairs, modifications, and troubleshooting accomplished on the Southwest fleet. This role will focus on providing Engineering support and expertise to the Southwest Technical Operations organization. The Senior Engineer is detail oriented and a strategic thinker who looks forward to making a meaningful impact on Technical Operations at Southwest. This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site. Responsibilities Evaluate and process manufacturer’s service documents (Service Bulletins, Service Letters, etc.), regulatory requirements (Airworthiness Directives, Notice of Proposed Rule Making, Code of Federal Regulations, etc.) Develop and substantiate in-house repairs and modifications for implementation into the SWA maintenance program Develop and substantiate reliability improvements through research, root-cause analysis and implementation through corrective action plans Conduct various types of cost/benefit analysis Collaborate with other departments such as Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, Production and other Stakeholders for assigned projects to develop project implementation plans Troubleshoot and resolve in-service issues Develop Engineering documentation to support resolution of in-service issues Participate in and coordinate activities related to OEM, Supplemental Type Certificate Holder, and PMA products Review and approve Engineering documents such as Engineering Orders, Drawings, etc. Provide mentorship to Junior Team members and may include training new Employees. May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of FAR's with a strong emphasis on Part 25 requirements and Part 121 operations Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various airline support services Knowledge of design techniques and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models Skilled in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills and experience Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing and assimilating data, including turning raw data into meaningful information, using data-oriented programs and visualization software Skilled in communicating effectively inside and outside the Technical Operations organization Ability to assimilate technical data for verbal and written response to SWA Leaders and regulatory authorities Ability to work well with others as part of a Team and under tight time constraints to accomplish assignments and projects Education Required: High School Diploma or GED Experience Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in: Airline/OEM/MRO Engineering Licensing/Certification N/A Physical Abilities Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job Other Qualifications Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 Must be at least 18 years of age Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines Pay & Benefits: Competitive market salary from $114,200 per year to $126,900 per year* depending on qualifications and experience.
