  • Social Media and Content Specialist
  • The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is a mission-driven non-profit dedicated to ensuring the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage. Since our founding in 1984, we have helped conserve nearly one square mile of elk country every day. In partnership with others, we have conserved or enhanced more than 9.1 million acres including improving public access to 1.6 million acres.
  • RMEF is seeking a Social Media and Content Specialist to create and deliver engaging, mission-driven content across RMEF’s digital platforms with a strong emphasis on short-form video, social-first storytelling and real-time engagement. The successful candidate will manage social media channels, produce photo and video content and support organizational campaigns that strengthen awareness and support of RMEF’s conservation efforts.
  • The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience managing social media platforms for a brand or organization, knowledge of digital trends and demonstrated expertise in creating and leading impactful social media contact strategies that specialize in short-form video editing and compelling digital storytelling. A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, journalism, public relations or a related field is preferred.
  • Location: This position is based at RMEF’s Headquarters office in Missoula, Montana.
  • Job Summary
  • The Social Media and Content Specialist will proactively create and deliver relevant and engaging content across RMEF’s digital platforms, with a strong focus on short-form video, social-first storytelling and real-time engagement. This role supports revenue, communication, and marketing initiatives by producing content that builds awareness of and support for RMEF’s mission and enhances community engagement. The ideal candidate is a creative self-starter who understands the digital landscape, stays ahead of trends and actively contributes to RMEF’s outreach and conservation goals.
  • Essential Functions
  • Administer RMEF’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn and others)under direction of department leadership, including content creation, scheduling, publishing, monitoring and performance tracking.
  • Plan, source, edit and produce engaging photo and short-form video content under the director of department leadership for use across RMEF's social media platforms, website, digital communication pieces and email marketing campaigns that align with RMEF’s mission and brand identity.
  • Support paid social campaigns across Meta and similar platforms.
  • Develop, support, and maintain a strategic, platform-specific social content calendar in alignment with revenue, marketing, and communications goals.
  • Monitor and report on social engagement across platforms, responding to comments, messages and mentions while identifying trends and opportunities for increased visibility.
  • Analyze organic and paid social content and campaign performance, providing data-driven reports and actionable insights to optimize future strategies and improve audience engagement to department leadership.
  • Support outreach efforts with sponsors, influencers and content partners in collaboration with department leadership to amplify RMEF’s digital presence and grow audience engagement.

  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, digital media, journalism, public relations or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, job related training and experience may be considered. Minimum of two years of professional experience in overseeing social media platforms for a brand or organization with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating and leading impactful social media content strategies that specialize in short-form video and compelling digital storytelling is required
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and support of RMEF’s mission, goals and activities.
  • Must be able to present self in a professional manner and effectively communicate to and develop relationships with a wide range of individuals, including staff, corporate partners, volunteers, members and other RMEF customers.
  • Skilled at initiating and coordinating photo, video and graphic content production projects by collaborating effectively with brand communications, creative and marketing teams.
  • Expertise in digital scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Agorapulse, Klaviyo, Wrike, Google Analytics, etc.) to optimize content reach and engagement.
  • Proficient in advanced video- and photo-editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom and Canva, with a focus on producing high-quality, mission-aligned content.
  • Continuously applies knowledge of digital marketing principles, SEO and CMS platforms to improve content visibility and user experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, proactively crafting clear, persuasive and accurate messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Highly organized and adaptable, consistently prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while driving collaboration and innovation in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Physical Demands
  • The employee must sit or stand for long periods of time; use a computer terminal; reach forward and to the side; bend from both standing and sitting position; and lift items weighing various pounds. Some travel may be required including overnight stays. Evening and weekend work may occasionally be necessary.
