Outstanding opportunity for a registered surgeon to contribute to the delivery of the Sydney Medical Program at Nepean Clinical School and to support the development and delivery of surgical services within the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Located within the Nepean Hospital precinct, Blue Mountains Part-time (0.5FTE) fixed term until December 2031 with a base salary starting from $156,103 (pro rata) + 17% superannuation About the opportunity Formed in 1856, Sydney Medical School is the oldest medical school in Australia. it accommodates around 1200 medical students undertaking a four-year graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine program, in addition to postgraduate coursework students undertaking a wide range of master’s degree, graduate diploma and graduate certificate courses. In addition to teaching and research facilities on the primary Camperdown and Westmead campuses, Sydney Medical School is comprised of six metropolitan clinical schools and three rural clinical schools where students undertake the majority of the program. The Nepean Clinical School, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health’s (FMH) Sydney Medical School (SMS) is currently seeking a Senior Lecturer – Surgery to undertake teaching and learning activity, research and other scholarly activity aligned with their clinical appointment in a surgical department at the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. Reporting to the Professor of Surgery. You will contribute to teaching and learning practice, course design and evaluation as well as building your research contribution within the discipline. Your key responsibilities will be to: contribute to the development, implementation, and promotion of surgical education programs at the Nepean Clinical School contribute to the delivery of surgical services within the Nepean Blue Mountain Local Health District work and collaborate on teaching programs and research with Clinical Academic and Professional staff at the five metropolitan University of Sydney teaching hospitals, the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and the University’s rural clinical schools collaborate with NBMLHD clinical staff and across surgical divisions and departments to develop short and long-term plans for improving healthcare quality, safety, process improvement, and value promote a culture that is collaborative, team-oriented, and one that respects the skill sets and opinions of all faculty and staff. About you has a FRACS awarded by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is registered with AHPRA has a PhD in the field of Surgery has an established research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research-related fields of practice demonstrated clinical experience in patient management in a surgical department had acknowledgement at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within the specialty and/or in pedagogical or curriculum innovation demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the specialty and educational design and practice a deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience teaching in a variety of settings an established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the specialty, School/Faculty and University an understanding of and ability to support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment significant experience supervising others and coordinating team activities a developing knowledge and understanding of the key issues in the higher education sector a proven ability to work closely and harmoniously with colleagues and have highly developed interpersonal skills. has an affinity with students and can offer them a supportive learning environment.
