  • St. Croix Health is seeking a RN Manager for our Operating Room team. This position is a full-time (1.0 FTE) exempt position.
  • This position leads the surgical services teams, which includes oversight of nursing and professional/technical staff in the OR, Sterile Processing and Endoscopy, creating a continuous, patient-centered, positive evolution of care delivery and care coordination. This role manages the day-to-day operation of the unit to maximize patient safety, clinical outcomes, customer satisfaction and intra and inter-departmental workflow as well as manages employee relations, oversees recruitment and onboarding activities, and assists with performance assessments and competencies. Assures compliance with all Policy, Procedure and regulatory standards. Manages financial resources and budgeting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1. Operational Accountability
  • Manage the day-to-day programs, systems, operations, and resources of surgical services to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of best-practice procedures and patient care and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input, suggests modifications, and implements policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards; evaluates and monitors compliance on a routine basis.
  • Collaborate with department head and other leadership to ensure the necessary resources are in place to execute the work of the department.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is occurring in accordance with EMR requirements and relevant compliance and policy obligations.
  • Provide skilled care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Evaluate and monitor effectiveness of patient care and promotes continuous quality improvement.
  • Establish and maintain relevant controls and feedback systems to monitor the operation of the department.
  • 2. Staff Management and Development
  • Plan, direct, and guide work of direct reports.
  • Manage and monitor department schedules, ensuring adequate staffing levels and coverage based on acuity and need.
  • Ensure staff are appropriately trained and competent in performance of assigned duties; assesses competencies of staff on regular basis in accordance with established standards and practices.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff to promote skill development.
  • Manage hiring initiatives; generate requisitions, coordinate interview team, conduct interviews, select staff to fill open positions, establish training plan, assist with orientation and onboarding activities
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance and accountability; perform rounding with assigned staff on routine basis; assist with resolving concerns or performance barriers to ensure staff are set up for success.
  • 3. Performance and Quality Improvement
  • Collect and review appropriate data to assist in the assessment of programs, procedures, and quality initiatives.
  • Assist team with advanced procedures and concepts.
  • Identify and implement process improvement efforts both within functional oversight areas and spanning multiple departments.
  • Plan, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output.
  • 4. Strategic Planning and Execution
  • Assist in the development and deployment of plans and programming to assist in attainment of organizational strategic initiatives.
  • 5. Clinical knowledge and Scope
  • Serve as a resource as all members of the peri-operative team. Keep job knowledge current with needs of the department.
  • Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and department by assimilation of the nursing process into practice.
  • Adhere to all criteria within the scope of Staff RN job description.
  • Serve as department subject matter expert regarding Infection Prevention, Fire Safety, Right to Know, and all other department policies.
  • Consistently demonstrate clinical competence in nursing procedures and patient care.
  • 6. Department Budget and Fiscal scope
  • Review requests for new supplies and equipment; orders and maintains necessary supplies, tools, and equipment through requisition process.
  • Identify and escalate capital equipment needs.
  • Educate staff and physicians on cost containment and conservation of supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor supply usage and special/one-time requests. Work with departmental leadership and vendors on pricing.
  • Identify, communicate and initiate cost reduction ideas.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of operational and capital budgets.
  • 7. Other duties as assigned.
  • Implement and evaluate standards of nursing practice and other internal/external regulatory requirements
  • Assist with various projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Requirements

Education & Licensure

  • ASN required; BSN preferred
  • Current WI RN license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire
  • PALS required within 6 months of hire

Experience

  • 5 years of prior perioperative experience required; Operating Room RN experience preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience

  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple demands and priorities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; role model in customer service skills
  • Understanding of operations of operating room, sterile processing and endoscopy services
  • Excellent critical thinking, reasoning and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively train others; develop and implement training plans

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee Surgical Services Staff including scheduling, timecard review, identifying developmental & training needs, navigating performance concerns and other relevant employee relations functions.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
