Job Summary:

The Cashier is a key team member responsible for providing exceptional customer service, performing transactions accurately, and supporting daily store operations in a fast-paced convenience store environment. Reporting to the Store Manager, the Cashier ensures customers have a positive shopping experience by maintaining a friendly attitude, assisting with purchases, and keeping the checkout area organized. Additionally, the Cashier is responsible for promoting store special offers, loyalty programs, and other company initiatives to maximize sales and customer engagement. This role also includes maintaining cleanliness in customer-accessible areas, including restrooms, to uphold the store’s high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service

• Greet customers warmly and assist with questions about products, promotions, or services.
• Handle customer transactions efficiently, including sales, refunds, and exchanges.
• Resolve minor customer concerns promptly or escalate to the Store Manager when necessary.
• Ensure the checkout process is smooth and customer-focused, reducing wait times and enhancing satisfaction.

Sales & Promotions

• Perform suggested selling by informing customers about special offers, discounts, and promotions.
• Actively promote the store's loyalty program and assist customers in enrolling or accessing their accounts.
• Highlight new or seasonal products to encourage additional purchases.

Cash Handling

• Accurately process cash, credit, and debit card transactions, following all company policies for security and accuracy.
• Balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring all amounts are accounted for.
• Handle and resolve payment discrepancies, such as incorrect cash or declined cards, with professionalism.

Store Maintenance & Cleanliness

• Maintain a clean and organized checkout area, including sanitizing surfaces and restocking impulse-buy displays.
• Clean and maintain restrooms to ensure they are presentable, well-stocked, and sanitary for customers and employees.
• Assist in light cleaning duties throughout the store, including sweeping floors, emptying trash bins, and tidying aisles as needed.
• Monitor and address spills, hazards, or other issues promptly to maintain a safe and welcoming shopping environment.

Inventory Support

• Restock shelves and displays near the checkout area to ensure availability of impulse-buy and promotional items.
• Assist with stocking, receiving deliveries, and inventory counts as directed by store leadership.

Compliance & Security

• Follow all company policies and procedures, including cash handling, loss prevention, and safety protocols.
• Monitor suspicious activity and report potential theft or security concerns to the Store Manager.

Team Support

• Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth store operations during shifts.
• Participate in brief team meetings or huddles to stay informed about daily goals and promotions.
• Support training efforts by helping new cashiers understand processes and customer service expectations.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Prior experience in retail, customer service, or cash handling is preferred but not required.

Skills:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-first attitude.
• Ability to perform basic math for cash handling and transactions.
• Attention to detail and accuracy when processing transactions and balancing cash drawers.
• Comfortable promoting products and programs to customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Dependability and ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
• Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting (up to 25 lbs).
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.
