Grand Forks, ND 58201 Pay Range: $17.07 - $25.60 Summary: The Release of Information Technician must at all times, protect the patient's rights to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information and that all release of information requests are in compliance with the authorization, company policy and HIPAA statues. The Release of Information Technician ensures information and records are released in an accurate, timely and confidential manner according to our policies and procedures and follows all HIPAA statues. Essential Job Functions: Answers telephone and routes calls, messages and incoming faxes, and opens and distributes mail promptly and courteously. Reviews requests for Protected Health Information (PHI) to ensure the request is HIPAA compliant. Retrieves requested PHI and processes request according to established policy and procedure (e.g. log request in, log request out, generate invoice for record copies, etc). Coordinates, routes and submits physician insurance statements, disability forms, attorney letters and questionnaires to appropriate physicians. Responds to requests for information in a timely manner. Responds to customer requests, concerns, or complaints in a timely manner. Processes subpoenas/dispositions/court orders and potential HIPAA breaches collaboratively with the HIM Manager, HIPAA Privacy Officer and Risk Management. Works with the HIM Manager, HIPAA Privacy Office and Risk Management in complying with patient rights to inspect, amend, correct, restrict, and release Protected Health Information. Serves as a resource to Altru providers, staff, on-site auditors, and the public regarding the procedure for how to release and locate Protected Health Information (PHI). Adheres to the highest level of security protection when working with Protected Health Information. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
