Job Title – Proofreader

Job Summary:

As a full-time proofreader, you will be responsible for reviewing biographical data presented in various formats, including, but not limited to, book chapters, press releases, magazine articles, and biographical narratives for various print publications and online features. Copy editing will be required at times. You will also be expected to write narrative content and complete data entry tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate will have prior proofreading experience, demonstrate incredible attention to detail, and possess the ability to multitask. Please note this is a full-time, ONSITE role at our corporate headquarters.

Responsibilities:

  • Proofread content written by the editorial department for print and online features, making corrections to spelling and grammatical errors, typographical errors, and checking for consistency and accuracy per the Marquis in-house style, AP style, and the style specific to each publication
  • Copy edit content when needed, tracking changes to be reviewed by the writer and management
  • Review design layouts, calling attention to design inconsistencies/errors
  • Meet deadlines assigned by editorial managers and team leads
  • Report to editorial manager(s) on a daily basis, as well as team leads, when appointed
  • Take direction from management/team leads and apply lessons and guidance into everyday assignments
  • Demonstrate the ability to make sound judgment calls based on biographical/factual information provided

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in proofreading
  • Keen eye for detail and command of the English language
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadline pressure
  • Experience with MS Office, especially Word
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign is a plus

Additional Details:

  • This is a fully ONSITE role at the RXR Plaza in Uniondale, 5 days a week.
  • Working hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm EST, and Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm EST.
  • The position includes potential room for growth and the opportunity to work on a diverse variety of editorial projects.
