Overview The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) is a growing department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the St. Jude Global (SJG) mission by training the clinical workforce, developing and strengthening health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advancing knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research. Our department is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Program Manager to support the development of a new research program aimed at improving outcomes of children diagnosed with cancer and other serious illness, particularly those who receive care in resource-constrained settings. The research program will specifically focus on supporting clinical decision-making and expanding access to palliative care globally. This key team member will engage in program development and have opportunities to participate directly in research (qualitative, mixed methods, implementation science). The ideal candidate is self-motivated, eager to help grow this new program in alignment with the St. Jude Global strategic mission and has a demonstrated interest and background in global health. Strong collaborative skills, project management, research, and leadership experience, expertise in relevant fields, and the ability to support a growing initiative are essential. Responsibilities The Program Manager will be responsible for: Guiding strategic planning efforts and managing the scope of the research program including project and program related plans, progress tracking, risk assessment, reporting and program/project evaluation. Collaborating with teams internally and externally to facilitate research and activities to achieve defined outcomes aligned with institutional and departmental goals. Leading communications with internal and external partners and vendors. Providing oversight and management of program budgets through planning and monitoring of expenditures. Participating in program-related research initiatives aligned with area of research expertise and experience (ex. study coordination, data collection and analysis). Preparing, editing, and tracking grant applications, research manuscripts, presentations, and program reports. Engaging with collaborators nationally and internationally through conferences, meetings, and site visits (travel estimate 10 – 15% time). Organizing and facilitating collaborative meetings/workshops within St. Jude and with global partners. Overseeing and mentoring team members. All candidates must submit a cover letter to be considered for the position. Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is required. Master's degree in public health, anthropology, health communication, decision science, business or related field is preferred. Minimum Experience: 4+ years of experience in program management and delivery. Experience designing and managing programs with focus on collaborator needs. Experience working with underserved, culturally diverse populations or in international settings required Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required Supervisory and/or team coordination experience required. Clinical and/or healthcare background is preferred (pediatrics, pediatric hematology/oncology, palliative and hospice medicine). Research experience is preferred (qualitative, mixed methods and/or implementation science, decision science). Experience in program budget tracking, reporting, and risk management. Experience engaging with senior leadership to facilitate decision-making. Experience providing guidance and mentorship within program management team. Some experience driving continuous program improvement projects. Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools required. Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity. Adaptable problem solving and analytic skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects while adapting to shifting priorities. With prior notice, ability to support virtual meetings occurring across multiple time-zones. Effectively communicates with internal and external partners. Raises concerns when appropriate. Strong written and verbal communication. Plans, delegates, and oversees team workload to meet project deadlines. Drives team engagement and ownership to deliver ambitious results. Strong understanding of budget planning, forecasting processes, contracts and grants and their interdependencies with organizational processes. Analyzes budget & grant data, identifies trends, shares findings and recommends actions as needed. Driven, proactive, and works with a high level of independence. Proficiency and experience with scientific writing is preferred. Fluency in a second language is preferred. Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Program Manager, Pediatric Palliative Care/Global Health Research Unit.
