Population Health Research Specialist Job Overview Location/Schedule: This position is based at the Lloyd Corporate Plaza, located in NE Portland, OR. Job Description: The Population Health Research Specialist is responsible for supporting data-driven, evidence-based research, innovation, population health management, and quality improvement to improve health outcomes for the clients we serve. This role will be targeted to support pilot project development, data collection, evaluation development and implementation, and data analysis and reporting. All incumbents must understand, appreciate, and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community. It is expected that there is an awareness and sensitivity to the perspectives and perceptions to those we serve, as well as our colleagues. As Cascadia is Trauma informed, the incumbent must support a Trauma Informed Care Environment. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving behavioral health services, it is required that the incumbent understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve. Using robust evaluation methods to support the evaluation of Population Health related projects and grant-based work including evaluation design, project management, implementation, and complex data analysis. Identify and acquire relevant population health data from Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other internal and external sources including compilation and management of pilot study data. Must leverage clinical knowledge and experience to help translate data and research into client-centered support and intervention. Assist with survey development, outcome tracking, and evaluation, including regular reporting on health metrics. Support intervention and program development in Population Health; Use a client-focused lens to intervention and program design, to supplement evidence-based research and data. Support staff and client education related to health education, program implementation, and interventions; conduct trainings with staff and create resources to support client health and wellbeing. Provide support in reporting and quality improvement efforts. Reflect on ongoing projects regularly and meet with the manager to provide recommendations for changes, interventions, or improvements, based on data analysis. Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and agency meetings as well as meeting with subgroups involving reports and data. Complete all annual employee training requirements to understand how to conduct ethical work, for professional development, and stay in compliance. Adhere to compliance, required laws and trainings, safety of property and staff, regulations, I.e. Mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPPA, fire regulations. Perform other duties as assigned. Secondary Work onsite three days per week. Qualifications Education: Required: Bachelor’s degree in public health, health sciences, biology, psychology, sociology or related field Preferred: A Master’s in public health, social science, healthcare administration or related degree that prepares for strong skills in research and evaluation. Experience: Required 2+ years of experience working in program development, implementation and evaluation. May also consider an equivalent amount or relevant experience in research. Preferred Experience working in a healthcare setting Clinical experience i.e. mental health or substance use Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrate ability to work with, manipulate, evaluate, and interpret data Knowledge of program evaluation methods, statistical methods, and statistical software (e.g., advanced Excel, R, etc.) Ability to conduct basic and intermediate data analyses (e.g., determine prevalence, test for differences in means or proportions, and statistical significance) Knowledge of physical health and behavioral health preferred Understanding of public health or population health preferred Knowledge of culturally specific services Knowledge of Microsoft office Suite (I.e. Word, Power Point, Excel) Must have strong knowledge of Excel and ability to translate and interpret data and findings to prepare reports Other: Ability to commute to different Cascadia sites and locations on occasion Working Conditions Environmental: Work is generally performed in an office setting with standard work hours are generally 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Mental: Remaining flexible on work routine; ability to multi-task and divert attention from one task to another. Physical Demands: Will spend extensive periods at a desk or work station. Regularly move about the workspace. Ability to visually identify data, read data, and obtain through direct communication. Continuously communicates with staff, clients, and stakeholders in person and by phone. Lifting 20-50 lbs. using stairs and running is infrequent. This location has an elevator onsite.
