Overview: Job Description Summary: Provides expert-level cardiovascular perfusion services across a range of patient populations and clinical settings. Plans, prepares, and operates cardiopulmonary bypass, mechanical circulatory support, extracorporeal support technologies, and blood conservation strategies, as well as the hematologic, hemodynamic, physiologic, anesthetic, and biochemical monitoring and treatment of patients and organs during such procedures and therapies. Job Description: Essential Functions: Monitors the patient's physiological parameters during cardiac surgery. Operates and maintains the heart-lung machine and other equipment used during surgery. Administers medications and blood products as directed by the surgeon. Documents all procedures and interventions performed during surgery. Participates in on-call responsibilities and serves as a clinical preceptor to cardiovascular perfusion students. Collaborates and coordinates care with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals – including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) teams. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, professional societies, continuing educational programs, and clinical and academic research in conjunction with physicians and surgeons to advance medical and perfusion technology. Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with a strong science background and advanced training in cardiovascular perfusion at a CAHEP accredited perfusion training program, required. Master's Degree, preferred. Certifications: Must be certification eligible and actively pursuing certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and attain and maintain certification within the first year of employment. Skills: Knowledge of principles and techniques of circulation technology. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work with hospital employees, physicians, patients, family members, and community professionals. Exceptional critical thinking skills and ability to respond quickly to problem-solving situations. Ability to handle high levels of stress and pressure in emergency situations. Experience: Pediatric Perfusion experience, preferred. Experience with ECMO, MCS and VADs, preferred.
