Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position. Pima County's Conservation Lands and Resources (CLR) Department is seeking motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Parks Coordinator II within the Range, Agriculture, and Water Division. This role is part of our Special Projects Team, which provides specialized construction, maintenance, and project support across all divisions of the CLR Department. Work may take place on any of the department’s 260,000 acres of fee and leased lands, including natural resource parks, ranches, and conservation areas. The successful candidate will assume significant leadership and on-site supervisory responsibilities for other Special Projects staff. In this role, you will coordinate and participate in a variety of projects—ranging from simple to complex—that may be carried out by our team or by external contractors. Key duties include supervising daily construction and maintenance work on ranch and park infrastructure, roads and trails, fences and gates, historic buildings, invasive species control, vegetation management, erosion control, and more. Additional responsibilities involve preparing project reports in Microsoft Word, incorporating maps and photos; collecting GPS points and track logs to verify project locations for planning and implementation; and updating infrastructure layers using apps like Survey 1-2-3 to reflect new or upgraded features. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, as they will regularly coordinate with other sections within the division, other departments within the county, contractors, and vendors. This role is critical in managing the department’s extensive conservation lands, including 13 active cattle ranches, notable parks such as Tucson Mountain Park, Colossal Cave Mountain Park, and Agua Caliente Park, as well as various open space properties. The division’s resource management efforts support the implementation of the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan (SDCP), a comprehensive and ambitious conservation initiative led by local government. The candidate must be capable of working in remote environments and extreme weather conditions—including heat, cold, dust, and humidity—and in areas with venomous reptiles, insects, cacti, and near the US-Mexico border. The position requires lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, safely operating vehicles and heavy equipment, and working from ladders or elevated platforms. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtained within the first year of employment. Job duties include but are not limited to the following: Coordinates/leads maintenance and construction/disposal projects within Pima County CLR managed natural resource parks, ranches, and open space properties to include infrastructure maintenance and construction, road and fence maintenance, building maintenance including on historic structures, inspections, scheduling of maintenance and repairs, scheduling of construction/disposal, and associated documentation of activities; Coordinates work-unit activities with other work-units, agencies or contractors to assure optimal use of available resources and to minimize disruptions of service or support; Assists management in development of requests for bids, statements of work, pertinent provisions in contracts, and bid proposal evaluations in area of responsibility and expertise; Develops and submits (written and oral) routine, recurring and special activity project reports to management; Participates, leads and may supervise the inspection, service/maintenance of tools, equipment and vehicles; Utilizes a variety of heavy equipment and specialty tools in performing work assignments including trailering a variety of loads. Participates, and leads staff in the skilled analysis and repair of equipment, park systems and construction projects; Performs operational and preventive maintenance of complex facilities, equipment and/or park systems; Operates specialized equipment and may require CDL; Performs journey-level tasks of the parks and recreation specialization; Provides leadership in the absence of the work center supervisor; Leads, delegates, oversees Park Coordinator I, Park Specialist I, II, Park Technician I, II or Park Helper with maintenance or project activities; Performs quality-control analysis on equipment, supported systems, turf management, ball field preparation, and all other park assets contained in assigned property; Maintains comprehensive activity, operations, service and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment and systems; Prepares oral and written activity reports; Monitors contractor performance; Some positions may be assigned to a natural resource park setting with duties including leading and training team members in skilled maintenance in environmentally sensitive locations, historic restoration, fencing, equestrian complex, camping facilities, ponds, trails, adobe buildings, habitat restoration, erosion control and invasive species. Minimum Qualifications: Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in parks and recreation, landscape management, facility operations, or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment PLUS two years of journey-level experience. (Substitution of five years of journey-level experience including one year of lead or supervisory experience in the trade, craft or operational area required expertise may substitute for completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program) OR: Three years of experience with Pima County as a Parks Specialist I, II or Park Coordinator I. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.): Minimum five (5) years of experience at journey level or higher in park, ranch, and/or open space infrastructure maintenance and construction including experience with road grading and trail maintenance (asphalt, concrete, DG and earthen); installation of cattle guards and gates; construction and maintenance of livestock fencing and vehicle barriers; repair of wells, pumps, and pipelines; construction of erosion control features; and control of invasive species. Minimum five (5) years of experience at journey level or higher in building construction or maintenance to include any combination of plumbing, painting, carpentry, welding, metal fabrication, concrete, electrical, and similar specialty trades. Experience with historic buildings and adobe work is desired. Any combination for a total of five (5) years experience. Minimum two (2) years of experience in supervision of staff/crews including ability to effectively engage and motivate, communicate assignments in writing and verbally, direct work tasks, resolve issues, and enhance employee performance while managing conflict and changing priorities. Experience with computer systems such as Word, Excel, Outlook or other email and in interactive on-line searches and applications. Minimum two (2) years of journey level experience loading and hauling heavy equipment, materials, UTVs/ATVs, and other items on a variety of trailers. Existing CDL is a plus.
