  • Make an impact. We are seeking a full-time bilingual (English/Spanish) Optometrist to render exemplary patient care for underserved families of Orange County. The position is at our clinic in Orange. Patient care hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break starting at Noon.

Essential Job Functions

  • With compassion, practice as an optometrist delivering prevention and diagnosis of disorders and dysfunctions of the eyes and visual system and treat and manage disorders and dysfunctions of the eye and vision system, as well as the provision of rehabilitation optometric services. In a timely manner clearly and accurately document and code all patient care and correctly submit related charges. Communicate positively and effectively with other providers, caregivers, and leaders. Seek out opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of care.
  • Essential Job Functions (What You Do)
  • Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination to diagnose disease and other abnormalities, such as diabetes or hypertension.
  • Prescribes, fits and adjusts eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
  • Prescribes medications to treat eye disease, removes foreign bodies from the eye, and analyzes test results and develops appropriate treatment plans.
  • Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision and provides vision therapy and low-vision rehabilitation.

  • Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Communicates and collaborates with patients’ PCPs.
  • In a timely manner, clearly and accurately documents all patient care and submits related charges.
  • Collaborates with supervisor to maximize patient access, provider productively, and health outcomes and safety.

Compensation

  • $132,500 - $157,500 annually at full-time?employment
  • Requirements

Education

  • Successful completion of a school or college of optometry with a degree of Doctor of Optometry.

License / Certifications

  • Licensed Optometrist in the State of California.
  • Provider level basic life support (BLS) from AHA approved program.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a practicing Optometrist
  • Experience providing direct patient care, preferably in an outpatient or community-based setting. (Preferred)

Training

  • Completion of all clinical requirements within the scope of practice as defined in the California Business and Professions code related to the practice of optometry.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to interface effectively with staff, volunteers, and other physicians/providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish fluently.
  • Willingness to use a translator or translation services to best serve patient treatment needs.
  • Proficient in computer programs and systems, including email, internet, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Expertise in applying evidence-based medicine to treat and diagnosis. Demonstrated ability in applying methods of scientific inquiry and exercising clinical judgment in challenging situations.
  • Exemplar communication and leadership skills, including active listening, taking initiative, following guidance, and setting examples for excellent care of patients.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, remaining current on Optometric practices and professional credentialing and licensure necessary for continuous employment with St. Jude Neighborhood Health Centers.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all caregivers across all levels and departments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to interpersonal and cultural sensitivity, valuing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, promoting high quality care to diverse populations.
  • Additional courses in pharmacology and pharmaceuticals. (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in EMR Systems, with EPIC experience. (Preferred)
