About
We're looking for Superheroes to join our amazing team of dedicated, caring and expert advocates, attorneys, case managers, crisis workers and others who serve victims of domestic and dating violence and sexual assault/sexual abuse in Southern Maryland. Ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound is not required (neither are tights), but the character traits and skills below are as we look for several on-call crisis workers to join our team, which helps bring safety, stability and hope to traumatized individuals. This is NOT a full-time position: it is an on-call position with shifts available 7 days per week, which are split between several staff members. Shifts consist of carrying an on-call phone, answering calls from your remote location (typically from zero to 3-4 calls per shift) and responding in-person in some situations. More information will be provided to those who are interviewed, and training will be provided to the selected candidate(s) This is a great opportunity for the right person to earn extra money while working at another job or attending college/grad school.f
MUST BE LOCAL (SOUTHERN MARYLAND): No applicants out of this area will be considered, as this position requires a quick in-person response to individuals in crisis in some cases,
· General Skills/Abilities/Attributes Required for Consideration: The person we hire will be compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental; s/he will also be a quick learner and quick-thinking, able to synthesize information coming from multiple sources quickly and accurately; non-defensive when receiving feedback; and committed (especially as evidenced by past work and/or volunteer experiences) to a violence-free world, and to helping others create and sustain healthy, equality-based, and supportive relationships.
· Some of the Specifics: Must have experience and skills that will allow the right candidate to work effectively with individuals in crisis. The ideal candidates are confident, quick on their feet, and committed to using their communication, thinking and interpersonal skills to help people handle crisis effectively, with an ultimate goal of changing their lives for the better.
· Also important: The right candidate also has a low-drama approach to life and a demonstrated history of valuing helping people over earning the big bucks. Add in the ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks; the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals, from victims to colleagues: judges, law enforcement, attorneys and others; a lifelong passion for helping others; a desire to excel at all you do; and a warmth, generosity of spirit, and sense of humor that are central to who you are and quickly noticed by the people you encounter in all aspects of your life. And, last but not least: you can work independently and are committed to doing high-quality work not because someone is watching and evaluating, but because it's just who you are. We realize that this might sound like the perfect person, completely unrealistic and absurdly unattainable...but we know better, since we wrote this ad by describing our current colleagues.
· How You'll Be Working: This position combines remote work involving answering our on-call 24/7 phone line and working with law enforcement, social services and victims of domestic and/or sexual assault to resolve immediate crises, as well as an in-person component: responding to the court-house or court commissioners’ offices, or to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, to assist victims in-person with services. It also involves meeting clients at several shelter sites in St. Mary’s County to assist them with securing shelter and other emergency services. The job may involve performing intakes & consultations with potential clients over remote software (from FaceTime to Signal to GTM); working with other staff members on plans to assist each individual seeking help; handling all aspects of record-keeping; and working as part of our entire team to review and handle cases. You will keep detailed records of the services provided and help to prepare the documentation needed in order to submit quarterly reports required by funding sources.
· Who You'll Be Working With: hands-down, the most delightful, committed and professional team of Superheroes you'll ever encounter! We care deeply about the people we serve, and we are committed to continuing to provide high-quality, personalized services, pandemic or not...and we'll welcome you as part of our team that makes that happen.
