  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Work Schedule: Onsite Monday-Friday, Fulltime.

Role Overview

  • The STRMM Network Engineer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and enhancing the STRMM terminal network infrastructure across global environments. This role ensures consistent performance of remote site terminals, supports virtualization and optimization efforts, and documents key configurations to uphold system scalability and mission readiness.
  • The position supports configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the STRMM network infrastructure. The engineer assists in documenting network architecture updates, implements virtualization and optimization efforts, and contributes to system upgrades to ensure the STRMM environment remains stable, scalable, and aligned with mission requirements.
  • This position may require OCONUS travel to support international site deployments, troubleshooting, or upgrades. Familiarity with CodeMettle (or similar edge node monitoring platforms) is strongly preferred.

1. Monitor Terminal Connections

  • Continuously monitor the connectivity and health of all site terminals.
  • Utilize SolarWinds or similar NMS tools to track uptime, latency, and performance issues.
  • Ensure timely resolution of STRMM and Helpdesk requests in line with SLAs.

2. Troubleshoot Connectivity Issues

  • Proactively diagnose and resolve terminal and network connectivity issues.
  • Engage with site teams for real-time troubleshooting and feedback.

3. Escalate Problems

  • Route unresolved issues to Tier 2/3 engineers or vendors as appropriate.
  • Coordinate resolution efforts across internal and support teams.
  • 4. Maintain and Update Documentation
  • Maintain accurate logs of configurations, incidents, and resolution paths.
  • Document site terminal network architecture and update changes regularly.
  • Assist in creation and enforcement of desktop/network management policies and enterprise best practices.
  • Maintain inventories of hardware/software versions for SATCOM systems

5. Perform Regular Check-ups

  • Conduct periodic status checks and preemptive diagnostics.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance activities to reduce downtime.

6. Collaborate with Other Teams

  • Interface with Helpdesk and engineering teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Maintain open communication with on-site personnel and stakeholders.

7. Provide Reports and Alerts

  • Generate and distribute regular system performance reports.
  • Monitor for alerts and initiate response procedures promptly.

8. Support System Improvements

  • Identify improvement opportunities for network resiliency and monitoring.
  • Implement upgrades and support virtualization efforts to optimize infrastructure.
  • Support and maintain centralized software repositories for STRMM/SATCOM builds.
  • Requirements
  • Education & Certifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Networking, Cybersecurity, or related discipline.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Experience Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in network support, NOC operations, or infrastructure roles.
  • Strong experience using monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or similar.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting network and connectivity issues.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, DHCP, DNS, firewalls, and routing protocols.
  • In-depth understanding of networking protocols like OSPF, Multicast and Quality of Service (QoS)
  • Experience maintaining technical documentation
  • Working knowledge of Voice over IP (VoIP) and other communication protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with network security devices and enterprise network management systems.
  • Understanding of STIGs, RMF, and network hardening practices.
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with CodeMettle or similar network/edge node monitoring platforms.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Background supporting DoD environments or military communications systems.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+
  • Familiarity with remote access/VPN configurations, remote terminal systems.
