I have an old Instagram account that existed before the merger of Facebook and Instagram that used to be accessible through my Facebook account. I can send proof of me owning the account/that it represents me when we get there. However, after this merger, Facebook never tied the account appropriately and left a "ghost" account. This account has continued to exist even with Meta taking over everything (Instagram, Facebook, Oculus, and others) related to Zuckerberg. I have since contacted Meta's support team, but all they tell me is that without access to the account, there is no way for it to be taken down. This is the same even after reporting the account as compromised and they even told me that in the event of a hacked account that cannot be accessed, the same thing applies and that all anyone can do is create a new account and then report the old account and see if it gets taken down (but often it does not). I have since also sent THOUSANDS of reports on the old account as fraud/impersonation, and yet Meta still does nothing. As of the 25th I have also sent legal notice indicating that these actions of Meta not allowing me to take down my account even after verifying myself is a violation of California State Personal Information Privacy acts along with federal ones. I get the feeling though that they will still not budge. I really could use some help since this old account hurts my branding and image I made. Thanks in advance.
