Position Summary
- The Music Director fosters the faith life of the parish through music and song, facilitated through several parish choirs, encouraging full, active, and conscious participation in liturgical celebrations. This role involves planning, coordinating, and leading music for all parish liturgies and events, while maintaining the integrity of Catholic liturgical norms and traditions. The Music Director works in collaboration with the Director of Liturgy of Ministries for continuity in the celebration of the Liturgical Year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Liturgical Music Leadership
- · Plan and lead music for all weekend Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, and special liturgies (e.g., Christmas, Easter Triduum, funerals, weddings, anniversaries, baptisms and other special occasions).
- · Select music appropriate to the liturgical season and readings, in collaboration with the Liturgy Committee.
- · Ensure music aligns with Catholic doctrine and enhances congregational participation.
- Choir and Music Ministry
- · Direct adult and children’s choirs, including scheduling weekly and special rehearsals and performances.
- · Recruit, train, and mentor cantors, accompanists, and other music volunteers.
- · Maintain choir rosters and ensure compliance with Safe Environment policies.
- · Proactively develop and integrate music liturgy throughout the Parish
- Administrative
- · Prepare and manage the annual music ministry budget.
- · Maintain musical instruments and sound equipment.
- · Ensure copyright compliance and manage music resources.
- · Create worship aids and coordinate with AV teams for projection or printing of music.
- Collaboration and Communication
- · Work closely and collaboratively with parish staff, faith formation leaders, clergy and ministries.
- · Actively participate in staff and liturgy committee meetings.
- · Provide music and music consultation for parish ministries and events.
- · Collaborate with school’s music instructor and Principal for Children’s Mass and other special school music occasions.
- · Collaborate with elementary and teen faith formation program directors to provide special summer programs and/or camps.
- Work Schedule
- · Work schedule is established with Pastor and Operations Director based on workload, at a minimum of forty hours per week, which includes some evenings, weekends and Holy Days of Obligation. Work hours must meet needs of the parish and school at the direction of the Pastor.

Minimum Qualifications
- · Strong commitment to the mission of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and be in full communion with the Catholic Church
- · Positive communication skills, verbal and written
- · Minimum three years’ experience leading music ministry in a Catholic Parish
- · Strong knowledge of Catholic liturgy and music traditions.
- · Bachelor’s or master’s degree in music, Liturgical Music, or related field.
- · Strong proficiency in organ, piano, and vocal performance.
