  • JOB SUMMARY
  • The Family Centered Case Coach plays a critical role in advancing United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s Military 2Gen Initiative by serving as a trusted partner to military-connected families, including Active-Duty Service Members, National Guard/Reserve Members, Veterans, and Dependents. This role focuses on building strengths-based relationships, connecting families to meaningful resources, and supporting their economic and educational goals through a coordinated whole-family approach. The Case Coach ensures military-connected families receive holistic, culturally responsive support that promotes long-term well-being and stability. The ideal candidate for this role is self-directed and provides valuable insight into the unique strengths and challenges faced by military-connected households. It is preferred that the candidate have the ability to gain regular access to military bases and be knowledgeable of services available both on and off base for the prioritized population.
  • PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
  • Build and maintain trusting, goal-oriented relationships with families participating in the Dual Generation Initiative.
  • Conduct holistic assessments (e.g., Life Self-Sufficiency Matrix) to identify family strengths, priorities and needs.
  • Responsible for family engagement programming and services that recognize families as experts in their own lives, that help families develop action plans to achieve their goals, and promote collaboration amongst staff, service providers, and the family to provide barrier free access to available resources and tools.
  • Use a whole-family approach that addresses the interconnected needs of Service Members, Veterans, dependents, caregivers, and survivors.
  • Implement outreach and recruitment strategies to engage military-connected families; help partners meet engagement goals.
  • Co-create and monitor individualized family goal plans with ongoing support, referrals, and follow-up.
  • Provide monthly coaching sessions, assessments, and goal setting tailored to military life circumstances (deployment, transition, injury, reintegration, etc.).
  • Conduct strategic outreach in military-connected communities and prioritized zip codes.
  • Support and sustain participation in Military 2Gen programs and services.
  • Coordinate and manage family engagement and resource-access events.
  • Build strong relationships with military-serving stakeholders (VSO partners, base organizations, caregiver networks, etc.).
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment and coordinated support.
  • Participate in partner meetings, community events, and professional development opportunities.
  • Schedule and conduct in-person assessments based on family availability.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation, including intake, exit data, case notes, and service tracking using Salesforce.
  • Monitor and report on family progress and programming milestones.
  • Demonstrate a culturally responsive and empathetic approach with families experiencing challenges related to housing, income, transition stress, disability, or trauma.
  • Develop strategies for sustaining family progress beyond the program lifecycle.
  • Provide insights and feedback to improve the Military 2Gen Initiative.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support United Way’s mission.

  • Requirements
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or 2 years of community related work experience plus an associate degree. High school diploma or GED and 4 years of community related work experience; or
  • Demonstrated lived or work experience with military-connected families including Active-Duty Service Members, National Guard/Reserve Members, Veterans, and Dependents is preferred and may include direct service, outreach, case management, advocacy, or program coordination.
  • Experience in providing case management and/or coaching is required.
  • Preferred work experience with parents, children and resident engagement.
  • Experience connecting individuals or families to workforce development programs; employment opportunities, job training, career pathways, or related economic mobility services is required.
  • Experience assisting families in understanding and accessing military systems and support (e.g., VA services, transition programs, EFMP, and installation-based programs) is highly valued.
  • Experience working with volunteers, families, or community residents.
  • Experience with parents or community engagement.
  • Proven work experience performing case management and/or program intake function.

  • Ability to multitask, strong attention to detail and organization; ability to prioritize and complete tasks prior to deadlines.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with military-connected families experiencing transitions such as deployment, reintegration, PCS moves, or separation/retirement.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and as a member of a team with parents, staff and the community at large. Always conduct yourself and your appearance in a professional manner
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity and empathy regarding human service issues and project a non-judgmental attitude. towards individuals requiring assistance.
  • Prior understanding of the issues and struggles of families in poverty and prior experience working in a direct service role with under resourced families.
  • Ability to work with manage a wide variety of populations and personalities with respect, compassion, and dignity.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access) proficiency preferred.
