About

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle & High School Tutor to provide targeted academic support to students across two school campuses. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping students build confidence, close learning gaps, and thrive both in and out of the classroom.

The position includes working with small groups of middle school students during the school day and supporting high school students through drop-in tutoring sessions three times per week. While the focus is on middle school math, the ideal candidate will also be comfortable assisting with a variety of high school-level subjects such as science, English, and general homework support.

The successful candidate will plan and lead engaging academic sessions, track student progress, build strong relationships with students and staff, and help create a positive, productive learning environment.

Responsibilities

Representation and Professionalism:

  • Wear company apparel as required to maintain a professional and cohesive appearance.
  • Warmly greet and engage with office staff, establishing a friendly rapport.
  • Display a friendly and sociable demeanor, remaining approachable and personable.

School Integration:

  • Check in with the principal and/or school administrators.
  • Establish connections with teachers, especially in the staff areas or common spaces, to understand grade levels and subjects.
  • Build relationships with all school staff members, including custodians, security personnel, and ancillary staff.

Session Preparation:

  • Prepare and organize intervention materials before each session.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of materials, requesting additional supplies with at least two weeks lead time.
  • Set up a clean and organized session location, whether a classroom or a designated area.
  • Review individualized learning goals or intervention plans when provided.
  • Welcome each student by name and consistently take attendance.

Teaching and Engagement:

  • Review content covered in the previous session to reinforce learning.
  • Provide an overview of topics for the current session, setting clear goals.
  • Lead engaging intervention activities aligned with student needs and curriculum goals.
  • Incorporate formative assessments for progress monitoring.
  • Record student progress and performance on formative assessments.
  • Adjust instruction based on student responsiveness and formative data.
  • Support student goal-setting and reflection.
  • Address behavioral issues promptly and professionally.

Documentation and Collaboration:

  • Complete a session summary after each tutoring or intervention session, noting the material covered, student progress, and key observations
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, student participation, and informal assessment results
  • Share progress updates with your supervisor and collaborate on upcoming session plans based on student needs
  • Engage with teachers weekly (when available) to exchange feedback and align on student goals and classroom pacing
  • Participate in occasional planning or debrief meetings with the program team to ensure consistency and quality across school sites
  • Proactively communicate student needs or concerns to supervisors and staff as appropriate
  • Contribute ideas and resources to improve intervention strategies and support student success

Organization and Maintenance:

  • Maintain cleanliness in the session environment by tidying up after each session.
  • Organize all materials, ensuring proper storage and organization.
  • Evaluate material inventory and submit supply requests as needed.
  • Develop plans for upcoming sessions or the following week, outlining methods and resources supported by observations and rationale.

Breaks and Time Management:

  • Arrive on time, adhere to scheduled hours, and manage time effectively to complete responsibilities during each shift.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 months of experience working with middle school and/or high school students in a classroom, after-school, tutoring, or youth development setting
  • Comfortable supporting students in middle school math and general high school subjects (e.g., English, science, homework help)
  • Associate’s degree or higher required (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, encouraging demeanor
  • Ability to build rapport with students, staff, and school personnel
  • Organized, dependable, and able to manage time effectively during shifts
  • Reliable transportation to travel between assigned school sites
  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds and move materials as needed
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must pass a criminal background check via fingerprinting prior to hire
  • Must provide proof of a negative TB test dated within the past two years
  • Bilingual (especially Spanish) is a plus, but not required

Availability

  • 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday – Friday

Pay Range

  • $21.00 - $26.00 per hour, depending on education and experience

Note

  • This position is contingent on supplemental funding and will be reassessed at the end of the term stipulated in the school contract.
