  • Description
  • The Manager of Events & Volunteer Services acts as a key liaison between the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and three volunteer auxiliary organizations: the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL), the Young Professionals (YP), and the Guild. Together, these groups advance the fundraising and community engagement goals of the DSO. This position manages the activities, finances, and engagement of these volunteer organizations while also supporting milestone donor events such as the Gala, the Young Professionals Experience (YP X), and other high-impact fundraising and cultivation events.
  • The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a strong fundraising mindset who can take vision and translate it into execution, balancing planning, relationship management, and administrative oversight with ease. Working closely with and serving as a key partner to the Director of Events & Volunteer Services, this role ensures continuity of leadership and execution across volunteer engagement and development events.
  • Donor Events & Volunteer Services
  • Manage and execute all activities of the DSOL, YP, and Guild, including membership, Board relations, calendars of events, and communications.
  • Attend board meetings and events for all volunteer organizations, fostering relationships, providing guidance to leadership, and ensuring alignment with DSO’s mission and fundraising goals.
  • Oversee the engagement of 1,000+ volunteers annually, ensuring their meaningful involvement in fundraising, service, and educational initiatives.
  • Partner with volunteer leaders to grow membership, strengthen service opportunities, and increase financial contributions to the DSO.
  • Serve as liaison between volunteers, staff, musicians, and guest artists, coordinating requests and ensuring a positive experience.
  • Manage volunteer finances, including budget oversight, financial reporting, accounts receivable/payable, and annual revenue forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly finance reports for Volunteer Treasurers and Committee Treasurers.
  • Oversee volunteer communications and marketing, including websites, social media, email platforms, and program recognition.
  • Provide event support and execution for milestone development events such as the Gala, YP X, festivals, youth concerts, and other donor cultivation experiences.
  • Department & Team Support
  • Support the Director of Events & Volunteer Services and Development leadership on large-scale projects and cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of major development events throughout the season.
  • Collaborate with Analytics & Operations and Finance teams to ensure accurate data, reporting, and acknowledgement of volunteer and fundraising contributions.
  • Research new projects and opportunities to enhance volunteer engagement and event fundraising impact.
  • Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Self-starter with strong initiative; works well independently and in teams
  • Strong work ethic; highly adaptable and organized
  • Typing 60+ wpm with accuracy; quick to learn new software and systems
  • Excellent attention to detail, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled at working with staff, musicians, donors, board, and volunteers with tact and confidentiality
  • Able to prioritize, stay calm under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
  • Creative problem-solver with strategic thinking skills
  • Nights and weekends required for events and concerts
  • Preferences
  • Knowledge of classical music helpful but not required
  • Fundraising event and volunteer management experience preferred
  • Experience with social media, website/content tools, and CRMs (Tessitura a plus)
