Job Description Summary Department - Public Defense Services Job Description OPEN TO CURRENT PIMA COUNTY EMPLOYEES ONLY Job Type: Classified Job Classification: 5480 - Legal Office Supervisor Salary Grade: 12 Pay Range Hiring Range: $27.33 - $32.79 Per Hour Pay Range: $27.33 - $38.26 Per Hour Range Explanation: Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position. The Pima County Public Defender's Office is seeking a Legal Office Supervisor to manage our Legal Processing Support (clerical) team. The Legal Office Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations, including training new staff, assigning work duties, and ensuring efficient workflow. This role involves reviewing cases appointed to the Public Defender’s Office and collaborating with Attorney Supervisors to facilitate appropriate case assignments and withdrawals. This position works closely with office administration to improve processes and ensure efficiency. Additional responsibilities include administering performance evaluations and disciplinary actions for the staff on that team. This role requires interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and organization to be successful. This position is part of the Public Defense Services Department, Public Defender Division, and reports directly to the Public Defender’s Legal Office Support Manager. Preference will be given to current employees of the Public Defender’s Office. Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff to ensure effective and efficient legal support operations; Manages daily workflow and caseloads to maintain operational efficiency and meet deadlines; Collaborates with leadership in strategic planning to improve division performance and service delivery; Ensures accurate preparation and processing of legal documents, including complaints, motions, and disclosures, in support of attorneys; Oversees and trains staff in proper use of document management systems and electronic filing procedures across various courts; Researches and compiles daily, weekly, and monthly performance metrics and reports for internal use and decision-making; Schedules and conducts job interviews, performance evaluations, and employee development plans; Trains staff in the use of legal case management systems to ensure consistent and accurate documentation; Coordinates file closeouts and ensures compliance with legal and procedural requirements; Maintains up-to-date knowledge of court procedures and legal office operations to support accurate staff guidance. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in legal studies, criminal justice, business or public administration, political science or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.) OR: Three years with Pima County in a Paralegal or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment. Supplemental Information: Licenses and Certificates: Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment. The County requires pre-employment background checks. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
