- SUMMARY OF POSITION
- Under the direction of the Manager of Clinical Support Services, and as part of a team-based health care delivery system model, the Lead Certified Medical Assistant (LCMA) provides direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical/clerical/leadership support services. The LCMA is the key role facilitating on-site competency for new and rotating Patient Care Technicians, Certified Nurse Aids, and Certified Medical Assistants. A Lead Certified Medical Assistant will have demonstrated mastery of all Medical Assistant (MA) functions. This role will assist in the management of clinic operations, as directed by the Manager or Site Director and will work in coordination with health care teams to provide high-quality, efficient patient care and experience that aligns with the Vibrant mission.
- ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- * Assisting in the delivery of competent and accurate medical care and treatment to all patients by performing medical assistant duties.
- * Assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a licensed practical/registered nurse and/or medical provider.
- * Printing and utilizing PVP lists, performing MA-driven workflows, and entering standing orders where applicable for care gaps and based on patient presentation.
- * Preparing examination rooms (i.e.: stocking medical supplies, disposing of sharps containers and biohazard items, arranging exam rooms according to provider preferences, etc.) before and after each patient visit.
- * Preparing equipment and supplies needed by the provider for each patient encounter.
- * Ensuring efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.
- * Maintaining neat, clean, and safe patient care areas, and promoting patient satisfaction through professional and respectful communications.
- * Assisting with patient processing, under direction of the clinic nurse or provider, escorting patients to exam rooms in order of immediate attention and appointments.
- * Interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e.: pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and accurately recording information on patients’ charts and records.
- * Conducting vison screenings, ear irrigation, finger sticks, phlebotomy, hearing screens, asthma nebulizer treatments, or other clinic approved procedures.
- * Drawing blood samples from patients; preparing samples and other specimens for laboratory analysis with appropriate requisitions.
- * Reviewing medication names and doses to patients as prescribed by providers.
- * Collaborating with other clinics and providers to obtain immunization records. Interpreting patient immunization records and recommending updated vaccinations as needed. Stays current with new vaccination information and schedules.
- * Communicating clearly with patients, directly and/or over the telephone regarding medications, dosage, education and counseling including asthma and obesity management, follow-up instructions, lab results per physician direction.
- * Ensuring Vibrant Health compliance with clinic policies, OSHA, CLIA, state and federal laws, and HIPAA regulations.
- * Complying with the protection and disposal of biohazards.
- * Adhering to and promoting professional, ethical and legal standards of practice.
- * Maintaining confidentiality of all organization information, consumer nonpublic personal information (NPI) and personal health information (PHI), as well as records directly or indirectly identifying any person currently or formerly receiving services from Vibrant Health Clinics.
- * Assisting in management of clinic operations, as directed by Manager of Clinical Support Services, Senior Director of Clinical Operations, CMO and Site Director.
- * Identifying and offering solutions/recommendations for issues that need Manager or provider attention to improve workflow management, reduce patient wait times and to improve overall patient satisfaction with clinic visits.
- * Engaging in constructive problem solving with other CMA’s, the Clinical Staff Nurse, Site Director and Leadership as problems arise.
- * Serving as the CMA peer instructor by providing support, training, guidance and acting as a resource to maintain and enhance clinical processes.
- * Updating and maintaining current onboarding checklist in assigned department in collaboration with CSN and leadership.
- * Completing final competency checklist for clinical support staff in assigned area.
- * Upholding clinic policies and safety procedures.
- * Serving as a role model by acting in a manner consistent with behavior expectations.
- * Accepting responsibility for leadership/monitoring of quality improvement or operational initiatives needed by the organization.
- * Ensuring Care Team staff are printing and utilizing PVP lists.
- * Entering standing orders, and correctly performing MA-driven workflows.
- * Evaluating ongoing educational/coaching opportunities for professional development.
- * Completing chart audits on clinical support staff for accuracy of timely documentation including, TE management, patient callback, pre-visit documentation, etc.
- * Collaborating with leadership and other Lead Certified Medical Assistant in establishing schedules to maintain full coverage at each clinic.
- * Willingness to cover or delegate an MA to cover other clinical sites if a shortage of MA: Provider ratio is identified.

- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- * High school diploma or GED.
- * Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Certification program, with current Medical Assistant certification required.
- * One (1) year prior, relevant working experience.
- * Active CPR/BLS certification.
- * Must possess knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures of medical assisting including phlebotomy experience, ability to collect samples (e.g. blood, throat cultures, etc.), take vital signs, and perform limited tests.
- * Must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Clinic Manager an ability to perform injections, instrumentation or lab procedures as directed.
- * Working knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).

- PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- * Bilingual fluency in written and oral English/Spanish.
- * Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
- * Prior experience working in a FQHC.
