  • About the Role
  • The Facilities Department is seeking a Laundry Technician to perform laundry duties including loading/unloading machines, delivery and pick-up, maintenance our machines, and perform facilities and general custodial duties. This service helps keep our Veterinary Hospital, Clinics, and Shelter running smoothly by ensuring our teams have a continuous supply of clean towels, blankets, and animal bedding and toys for our patients and shelter dogs and cats. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Facility, Equipment & Grounds Maintenance
  • Perform laundry duties on a daily basis
  • Operate laundry equipment and provide laundry pick-up and delivery to departments throughout the facility
  • Perform general facilities maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, cleaning the bottom compartment of each dryer machines daily
  • Maintain the exterior of the laundry equipment daily and ensure they are free of debris and obstruction
  • Ensure work area is kept clean and orderly
  • Maintain and organize all clean laundry bags by color
  • Inform the Facilities Manager or Lead Facilities Technician if any of the laundry equipment is not operating properly
  • Other duties may be assigned by immediate supervisor
  • Adhere to facility, equipment specifications or government regulations
  • Client Service
  • Ensure quality service is provided to our internal and external customers
  • Ensure quality service when performing laundry duties
  • Promote good public relations in accordance with Society practices; apprises supervisor of situations that could be unsafe or potentially damaging to the professional image of the Society
  • Practice and encourage the humane treatment of animals
  • Safety
  • Follows internal protocols, local and State laws and OSHA regulations for all projects, equipment operation, and chemical usage including labeling, storage, disposal, and the use of personal protective equipment
  • Takes immediate action to correct any safety noncompliance that could put an employee, volunteer, client, animal, or the organization at risk
  • Maintain a clean, healthy, and sanitary work area; follow all pest and rodent control protocols.
  • Participate in keeping the SF SPCA campus clean and well maintained
  • Requirements

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking and, standing on feet 8-10 hours per day while performing job functions
  • Exposure to disinfectant solutions when cleaning
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation
  • Consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens under conditions with limited alterations available

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and write English and perform basic math

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the San Francisco SPCA
  • Good organizational and some problem-solving skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Ability to complete laundry duties in a timely manner
  • Basic computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Teams/Outlook)
  • Basic custodial experience
  • Willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace
  • Salary
  • Starting wage is $25.00 per hour.
