We are currently recruiting candidates who are native speakers of Malay (also Manglish, Malay with natural English code-switching) for a large-scale project which involves both voice recording and transcription for the purposes of machine learning. No prior experience is necessary. We have different varieties of roles, including: Two-person voice recordings (you and a partner record improvisational dialogue and send us the audio files). You can find your own partner, or we can match you with someone. We presently use Zoom to record, but may upgrade to software that records at a higher quality as the project unfolds. Single-person voice recording (you record improvisational dialogue and send us the audio files). Transcription (you would transcribe the audio we produce in accordance with a set of transcription rules). Text-to-Speech recording (you would record yourself reading pre-assigned scripts). 100% remote work; all that is required is a good working computer and a strong internet connection, though a decent external mic and headset would be worthwhile investments once large assignments are allocated. Roles 1, 2, and 3 above are priced in terms of cost per audio hour, while speech-to-text (4) would be priced in terms of the word count of the script. Please note: "Audio hours" and "work hours" are not the same concept. An audio hour is a fixed unit based on the length of the audio file. Work hours are the time one spends completing a task. Pricing is done in terms of audio hours exclusively, so please bear that in mind when quoting. For reference, it takes a little more than an hour to record an hour of improvisational audio. The transcription of an audio hour, on the other hand, generally takes from 3 to 5 work hours for a single audio hour of transcription for the audio associated with this project. If you have any questions or are interested in the project, please don't hesitate to reach out. At this stage, just a ballpark rate per audio hour for recording is sufficient (if you are a team, please quote as a team); otherwise, quote as an individual. For transcription, please quote as an individual, bearing in mind that an audio hour takes 3 to 5 hours on average to transcribe. Feel free to express interest in all four project components or in any individual component that interests you. * Please note that our suggested rate is only a placeholder. Feel free to propose a rate that keeps you motivated and engaged for the duration of the project. Enthusiastic participants who provide quality work may receive a large volume of work, so please take that into consideration when quoting, so that your rates are as competitive as possible.
