  • At SPL, we turn science into impact. We’re searching for a skilled Laboratory Analyst II to join our Metals department in Reading, PA. In this role, you’ll leverage your prior lab experience, broaden technical expertise, and deliver the accurate data our clients rely on for compliance and decision-making. You’ll work with a wide range of analytical techniques, instrumentation, and laboratory software to generate high-quality, defensible data.

  • Perform advanced sample preparation and analysis across chemistry, inorganics, organics, wet chemistry, metals, and other specialized areas;
  • Work with state-of-the-art instrumentation, technology, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS);
  • Lead by example in quality, accuracy, and turnaround times that drive client trust and environmental compliance;
  • Contribute to audits, SOP development, and process improvements that strengthen laboratory operations.
  • What You’ll Do
  • Conduct sample preparation and analyses of client and quality control samples while meeting accuracy, quality, and deadline standards;
  • Operate and maintain proficiency in a broad range of laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and software;
  • Review, interpret, and record analytical data within LIMS to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance;
  • Troubleshoot analytical systems, determine root causes of out-of-control data, and recommend corrective actions;
  • Perform maintenance and assist in updating SOPs and documentation as needed;
  • Support the Quality Department by participating in audits, completing NCRs, and preparing investigation reports;
  • Adhere to all safety requirements and procedures;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Requirements
  • What Makes You a Great Fit
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Chemistry or equivalent experience;
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a professional analytical laboratory;
  • Prior experience with ICP, ICP-MS, digestion, titration, or mercury analysis strongly preferred; proficiency in at least one is required;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all competencies required of the Laboratory Analyst I role;
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation, standardized methods, and data interpretation across a variety of analytical techniques;
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and/or other laboratory software;
  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory compliance requirements;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess data and propose sound corrective actions;
  • Tenacious, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality, defensible data;
  • High accountability with the ability to work independently and collaboratively;
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Your Schedule and The Fine Print
  • Full-time position following Monday through Friday schedule from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm EST;
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal hours to support business needs and deadlines;
  • Ability to support a monthly weekend rotation and a holiday rotation.
