POSITION DETAILS

  • Job Title: Lab Manager
  • Status: This is a full-time, year-round, benefits eligible position.
  • Classification: Exempt - Salary
  • Schedule: M-F
  • Location: This is an in-office position, primarily based at our Vail location. Frequent travel to all clinic locations will be required including Frisco, Aspen, Basalt and Edwards.

POSITION OVERVIEW

  • The Laboratory Manager for ProofPoint Biologics (PPB) Laboratory is responsible for the daily operations of the plasma rich platelet laboratory, supervising operations, and quality control, and ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and regulations. The Lab Manager complies with the FDA guidelines and regulations set forth by the governing agencies, including CLIA.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
  • Operate, test, and calibrate analytical instruments, equipment, and related components, which may be extremely delicate and sensitive; adjusts and resolves new and unusual problems.
  • Plan, direct, and implement improvements in systems, processes, and procedures to increase efficiency, productivity, and quality in the laboratory.
  • Review data for technical quality and compliance to protocols, methods and sign off on all SOPs.
  • Responsible to keep the Laboratory Director appraised of significant events in the PPB laboratory which impact operations and compliance.
  • Lead regulatory audits.
  • Ensure that corrective actions are taken for identified errors, and that corrective actions are evaluated for their effectiveness and ability to prevent a recurrence.
  • Managing of team including but not limited to hiring, firing, and ongoing performance management of personnel.
  • Manage lab staff and ensure that they receive the on-going appropriate training for the complexity of services offered by the laboratory. Document staff competencies.
  • Train staff in compliance with and adhering to the laboratory procedure manual and all applicable state/federal/facility regulations.
  • Requires travel to all TSC Colorado-based locations (based in Vail, this includes travel to Edwards, Frisco, Dillon, Basalt and Aspen) to provide procedural, compliance and management oversight of PRP services.
  • Provide a safe environment that protects employees from physical, chemical and/or biological hazards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience requirements

  • Doctoral or Master’s Degree Pathway: An earned doctoral or master’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science, or medical technology, from an accredited institution, plus at least one (1) year of laboratory training and/or experience performing nonwaived testing in a clinical hematology laboratory.
  • OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree Pathway: A bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science, or medical technology, from an accredited institution, plus at least two (2) years of laboratory training and/or experience performing nonwaived testing in a clinical hematology laboratory.
  • OR
  • Associate Degree Pathway: An associate degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science, plus at least four (4) years of laboratory training and/or experience performing nonwaived testing in a clinical hematology laboratory.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Supervisory and management experience highly preferred.
  • Experience in leading a COLA/CLIA audit required.
  • Effective data trending, document control and technical bench skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of procedures, policies and documentation required to ensure compliance with standards of care.
  • Proven history of excellent organization, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, ability to work independently, and manage time effectively.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and workflow management skills required.
  • Must be energetic, quality driven and have proven ability to be productive member of a cohesive team of peers dedicated to providing optimum patient care.
  • Maintain a professional attitude towards patients and an excellent and collegial working relationship with other Steadman Clinic and hospital personnel involved in delivering patient care.
