We are seeking someone to join our Equity Swaps Technology team as a Senior Developer in ESTAR to support the Equity Swaps business. This is a global front-office team that writes the software supporting a leading provider of the Equity Swap product. This role is at the heart of the Equity Swaps system and will involve the core life cycle management system and real time calculation engines which are backed by a very large, sharded, MongoDB cluster. The developer will work within an agile squad developing within a system comprising of numerous Java services that interact via messaging to produce the product outputs in real time. Technologies and techniques such as highly multi-threaded Java, sharded MongoDB and caching are used in the stack to provide the scale and performance that the product requires. A candidate is likely to gain exposure to both new and complex technologies as well as in-depth business knowledge. What you’ll do in the role: Join one of our core development squads to work on business logic changes, general code maintenance, to more complex changes to support the incoming business requests. Write hands-on efficient code with high message volume, large data sets in a complex business product and highly complex concurrent event processing model. Architect, optimize, and tune MongoDB schemas and sharding strategies for high performance, scalability, and maintainability, leveraging tools and features such as the aggregation framework. Work with MongoDB vendor to define, test and implement strategies to improve performance, scale and to enable key product upgrades. Collaborate effectively with developers, DBAs, release management, MongoDB vendor consultants, and senior IT managers while providing technical leadership on best practices. Own and deliver change from idea to production. Involve in the testing and development of unit tests, automated integration tests, runbook development. Help in the comprehensive UAT, full system regression and change rollback tests. Be part in the Level 3 regional production support rotation which is shared between our global developers. Adaptable to work across multiple technologies and disciplines, with a focus on delivering quality solutions for the business in a timely fashion. What you’ll bring to the role: 7+ years of core server-side Java experience with expertise in working in a highly multi-threading environment. In-depth experience building, maintaining, upgrading and optimizing systems utilizing MongoDB (you may even have some DBA experience, although this is a dev role). Demonstrable ability to write quality solutions and to identify / avoid poor solutions and common pitfalls. Experience in software testing methods (ex. JUnit, Cypress) Understanding of Linux and scripting languages. Experience in relational and/or NoSQL database experience. Understanding of message-based architectures (MQ, PubSub, Kafka and/or similar techs). Full software development lifecycle experience in an enterprise setting. An interest to learn the business supported by the applications. Good problem solving and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A willingness to be flexible and able to respond to a dynamic business environment. Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $210,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
