If you need assistance, please contact us at HR.Hiring@etamu.edu SUMMARY: The Simulation Laboratory Manager oversees the daily operations and strategic development of the nursing simulation center and teaches in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The primary goal is to achieve International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) endorsement for our program's simulation-based education. The Manager will focus heavily on designing, implementing, and evaluating simulation experiences that rigorously foster and assess clinical judgment in students. This position is grant funded through July 31, 2027 and is renewable for the duration of the grant. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of funds. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching Teaching, scholarly activity and service consistent with rank and track Working collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement best practices in the courses assigned and to support departmental, college and institutional initiatives. Maintaining a current understanding of changes and trends in the discipline and effective pedagogical practices in classroom, clinical, and simulation. Program Management and Strategic Planning Goal Achievement: Lead all efforts to prepare the simulation program for INACSL endorsement, including policy development, documentation, faculty training, and adherence to INACSL Standards of Best Practice. Curriculum Integration: Collaborate with BSN faculty to ensure seamless and progressive integration of simulation activities across the curriculum, specifically targeting the development of clinical judgment skills. Assessment & Evaluation: Develop and implement robust evaluation tools and processes to measure student learning, focusing on the quality of clinical judgment demonstrated during simulations. Use data to drive continuous program improvement. Budget & Inventory: Manage the simulation lab budget, including purchasing, maintenance, and inventory of manikins, equipment, supplies, and software. Simulation Design and Implementation Scenario Development: Design, write, and test high-fidelity and low-fidelity simulation scenarios that are realistic, evidence-based, and aligned with course objectives and QSEN competencies, with a strong emphasis on challenging students' clinical judgment. Technical Operation: Operate and maintain a variety of simulation equipment, including high-fidelity manikins, standardized patients, audio-visual equipment, and learning management systems. Facilitation and Debriefing: Train and collaborate with faculty on effective simulation facilitation and evidence-based debriefing techniques (e.g., INACSL standards, healthcare simulation literature) that enhance reflective practice and clinical judgment. Safety and Environment: Ensure a safe, realistic, and well-maintained learning environment that mimics authentic clinical settings. Simulation Assessment and Proficiency Assessment Tool Design: Develop and implement rigorous, psychometrically sound simulation assessment tools (e.g., checklists, rating scales) that directly measure behaviors related to clinical judgment (e.g., cue recognition, hypothesis generation, prioritization, and evaluation). Proficiency Benchmarks: Establish clear, measurable student proficiency benchmarks for all mandatory simulation experiences, ensuring these align with programmatic and accreditation standards. "Meet Expectations" Standard: Define the minimum acceptable standard for passing ("Meet Expectations") a high-stakes simulation, which must include the demonstration of safe patient care and effective use of the clinical judgment process. Remediation Protocol: Design and manage a standardized, evidence-based remediation protocol for students who do not meet the defined proficiency standard, including structured re-testing scenarios and focused debriefing sessions. Data Analysis: Conduct regular statistical analysis of simulation assessment data to evaluate the reliability and validity of scenarios and tools, reporting findings to faculty for continuous quality improvement. Professional Development and Collaboration Faculty Development: Organize and deliver training workshops for faculty and staff on new simulation technology, scenario design, and debriefing methods focused on clinical judgment models (e.g., Tanner’s Clinical Judgment Model, NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model). Collaboration: Serve as the simulation expert liaison between the BSN program, clinical partners, and technology vendors. Research: Participate in scholarly activities, including simulation-related research and presentations, to advance the science of healthcare simulation and its impact on clinical judgment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required. Experience / Knowledge / Skills: A minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN). Previous experience teaching in a BSN or higher education nursing program. Expert-level technical proficiency with high-fidelity manikins (e.g., Gaumard, Laerdal) and simulation software. Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. Assessment Expertise: Strong working knowledge of psychometrics and best practices in developing reliable and valid performance-based assessments (simulation assessment, OSCEs). Ability to: Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students to meet accreditation and industry standards. Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage a complex budget. Data Literacy: Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative simulation data to measure student proficiency and drive curricular changes. Licensing/Professional Certifications: Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license. Physical Requirements: Able to be on feet to supervise clinical learning experiences for an 8-12 hour shift. Other Requirements: Current Clinical Skills PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE: ● Certification: Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS). ● Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation and Tanner’s model of clinical judgment. ● Simulation Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing or coordinating a healthcare simulation center or simulation-based educational activities SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: N/A All positions are security-sensitive.
