It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work This position reports to the Correctional Associate Warden of Programs at a multi-custody male correctional facility and will be responsible for coordinating the Administrative Remedy Procedures for Offenders (Grievance Program). Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Maintaining a computerized tracking system to maintain records of all grievances to ensure documentation is in place to comply with policy and legal requirements. 2. Monitoring the grievance program to ensure the process meets Department of Adult Correctional policy requirements. 3. Reviewing appeals and ensuring the process for review and notification is completed in accordance with policy. 4. Exercising judgment and discretion in applying all policy and procedures for the Administrative Remedy/Grievance Program. 5. Maintaining knowledge of the Administrative Remedy Procedures/Grievance Program and consulting with staff and offenders to provide guidance in the resolution of concerns/issues. 6. Assisting with investigating grievance claims by researching and gathering facts for response to the offender. 7. Analyzing data and completing reports on grievances while demonstrating the ability to organize and complete work assignments with minimal guidance. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. About Central Prison: Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers. While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.
