  • The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the oversight of daily prevention activities to achieve program’s goals with the system/organizational strategic priorities. The role is developed from the needs of the entire Premier Partners system and hospital community to reduce the risk of infection for patients, all staff and visitors. The IP collaborates with persons clinically responsible for inpatient and outpatient departments as well as non-patient care support areas based on interpretation and evaluation of CMS, CDC, OSHA, ODH, APIC, TJC, and EPA guidelines, standards and/or regulations or other standards related to infection control and epidemiology.

Essential Duties & Functions

  • The incumbent assists the Infection Prevention Coordinator on a daily basis. Incumbent is responsible for assisting the Coordinator with activities that promote and maintain an organization-wide infection prevention and control program. These activities include surveillance; data collection/analysis/reporting; problem solving and consultation to the medical staff and all departments. Incumbent is responsible for assisting the organization in meeting accrediting and regulatory requirements related to infection prevention and control.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Public Health or other discipline preferred.
  • Licensure: Current State of Ohio licensure as Registered Nurse, if applicable.
  • Certification: Certification in Infection Control strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Three years clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting required.
  • Skills/Other: Two years experience in the specialty of infection control is preferred. Attendance at a basic infection control training course may be required when eligible. Knowledge of NHSN. Proficient in key clinical and administrative databases required for active surveillance (i.e. EMRs, lab systems, ADT, surgery systems, pharmacy and radiology information). Must be able to be an effective team member in multidisciplinary teams. Team and consensus building skills is critical; requires situational awareness, relationship management, and the ability to drive change through influence and persuasion.
