Role Overview We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to work across multiple projects, building and maintaining APIs, integrations, and backend services. Our work spans AI-driven applications, SaaS platforms, content/data systems, and enterprise integrations. You will help design scalable, secure, and maintainable backends that power both internal tools and customer-facing applications. This is a long-term engagement — not a single project — and will involve collaboration with DevOps, frontend, and AI/ML engineers. Key Responsibilities Backend Development Design, build, and maintain REST and WebSocket APIs. Integrate with external APIs, databases, and third-party services. Implement backend logic for AI-powered features (e.g., retrieval-augmented generation pipelines). Database & Storage Design efficient database schemas (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, vector DBs). Write optimized queries and implement indexing for performance. Integration & Automation Connect services to CRMs, content management systems, analytics tools, and data pipelines. Build backend automation workflows and scheduled tasks. Security & Performance Implement authentication, authorization, and role-based access control. Apply performance tuning, caching strategies, and load handling. Collaboration Work closely with frontend engineers to design API contracts. Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to integrate LLM orchestration and search/retrieval. Coordinate with DevOps on deployments, monitoring, and scaling. Required Skills & Experience Languages & Frameworks Python (FastAPI, Flask, Django) — primary. Node.js (Express, serverless frameworks) — secondary. Databases PostgreSQL / MySQL for relational data. NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis). Experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Qdrant, Weaviate, Vespa) is a plus. API Design Strong experience designing clean, well-documented REST APIs. WebSocket or GraphQL experience a bonus. AI/ML Integration Experience integrating with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.). Familiarity with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar. General Git-based workflows. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills. Ability to document code and processes clearly. Nice-to-Have Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines. Background in telecom, SaaS, or e-commerce integrations. Familiarity with search/retrieval systems (Elasticsearch, hybrid search). Knowledge of microservices architecture. Engagement Details Type: Ongoing contract Location: Remote (must be responsive in GMT±3 timezone). Compensation: Hourly or monthly retainer, depending on arrangement.
