  • SUMMARY
  • The primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing a variety of generalist level human resource responsibilities with a strong focus on providing support to CVRF’s vessel operations. This position supports the HR Supervisor in the vessel recruiting process, monitoring injury claims, executing orientations, scheduling crewmember rotations, drug test administration, making travel arrangements, and ensuring crew member engagement.
  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • • Works with HR Supervisor to develop comprehensive strategic workforce plans for assigned vessels.
  • • Facilitates timely vessel crew recruitments for assigned vessels and assists HR Supervisor with recruiting for all vessels.
  • • Attracts applicants by placing job advertisements on various platforms, participating in job fairs and recruiting outreach activities.
  • • Monitors and maintains job postings and closes job requisitions when filled with applicant information.
  • • Conducts interviews, reference and background checks, follows through on potential hires, and relays any reference concerns to Supervisor.
  • • Compiles all paperwork involved during the recruitment process, including interview notes, authorizations, reference checks, pre-employment drug screenings, and background checks.
  • • Enrolls employees in the workplace health system and assists employees with the screening process.
  • • Assists in vessel orientation and preparation for departure.
  • • Administers hiring paperwork and contracts to crew, complete I-9 forms and collect ID to ensure crew eligibility to work in the United States.
  • • Assist new crew with enrolling in the benefits plans, and forward forms to benefits administration and Anchorage Human Resources.
  • • Assist in HRIS Administration tasks for crew support including verifying information of all new hires entered in the HRIS is accurate. Process terminations in Paylocity appropriately and timely.
  • • Books travel arrangements for crew members as needed, to include but not limited to air travel, ground transportation, and lodging.
  • • Accurate and timely reconciliation of company credit card.
  • • Performs accurate monthly reconciliation and coding of travel and business expenditures via Concur, and approves crewmember and business invoices for vessel expenses via PaperSave. Avoids legal challenges by understanding current laws and recommending or creating new procedures.
  • • Helps develop new programs to better assist the needs of the HR department.
  • • Assists in workplace investigations as needed.
  • • Provides continual communication of all assigned vessel arrivals and departures with various departments (Payroll, Purchasing, IT).

  • Requirements
  • KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent and 4 years of previous Human Resources experience is required. Recent experience in Alaska fisheries with working knowledge of the Jones Act is preferred. Ideal candidates will possess the ability to represent the company in a professional manner and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Candidate must be outgoing and self-motivated with a strong desire to excel. Good working knowledge of Office 365 (specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook) is required, while experience with HRIS software is a plus. This position requires the willingness to learn, remain flexible, and work collaboratively within a team environment. A high regard for accuracy and attention to detail, along with strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines, is required. Must be patient and sensitive to cultural differences present in a diverse workforce. This position will be required to work occasional overtime in order to meet deadlines. This position requires the use of a company cell phone, and the ability to hold interviews virtually and/or telephonically. Following onboarding, the employee will be added to the on-call rotation for vessel emergencies after hours.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • In order to successfully perform the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to effectively remain in a stationary position for long periods of time, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, communicate with others in person and over the phone, and move about inside an office. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and move in excess of 25 lbs. The employee is required to stand; walk, stoop, kneel and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position also requires the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
