- Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is currently seeking a Herpetology/Invertebrate Zookeeper. Under direct supervision of the Department of Herpetology Managers, this position performs a variety of duties related to care, and maintenance of our reptile, amphibian, and invertebrate collection and exhibits. The ideal candidate will assist in the care for a large and diverse collection.
- This position is Union, non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours per scheduled work week.
- Essential Job Functions Duties will include, but are not limited to monitoring and reporting on the following:
- * Care for a large diverse reptile and amphibian collection, working with venomous species, and large dangerous reptiles.
- * Perform routine care of life support systems
- * Assist with the care of fish in mixed species exhibits.
- * Assist in caring for insects.
- * Ability to use power tools for exhibit maintenance and construction
- * Must be able to work independently and be able to perform routine duties in a timely manner.
- * Enter data in ZIMS.
- * Perform swing keeping duties.
- Minimum Training and Experience
- * Requires an Associate’s degree (bachelor’s preferred) in Zoology or an applied science related to actual animal care and two years zookeeper experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- * Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
- * Must be 18+ years of age
- * This position works in very hot and humid environments at times.
- * Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs frequently
- * Must have good data keeping skills and observation skills.
- * Must excel in problem solving and communication skills.
- * Must maintain a clean and organized work area.
