- Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) is recruiting for full-time maintenance supervisor at the Neets Bay Hatchery, a remote hatchery located approximately 30 air miles from Ketchikan, Alaska. The Neets Bay Hatchery program includes approximately 140 million chum salmon and 3.5 million coho salmon. This position requires living on site in furnished subsidized rental housing. Utilities include but are not limited to: weekly mail and supply flights, satellite internet, and R&R hotel accommodation in Ketchikan. Work consists of maintenance and repairs associated with 9 residential buildings, a bunkhouse, a shop/office building, a hatchery building, rolling stock, various boats and outboards, a hydro-electric generator and two diesel generators, a large dock and multiple netpen complexes, multiple barges as well as other infrastructure associated with a small community.
- The ideal candidate must have the ability to develop healthy working relationships with vendors, contractors, co-workers, other SSRAA departments, and have the willingness to share knowledge and skills. Desired skills include proficiency in: carpentry, welding, plumbing, basic electrical, maintaining preventative maintenance records, use of hand and power tools, and project planning. In addition to maintenance responsibilities, this position may, on occasion, assist with various fish culture activities and will be expected to perform other duties as assigned. The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain an Alaska Driver’s License and all applicants may undergo a background check. - Summary of Position: Under the direct supervision of the Hatchery Manager, this position performs or supervises the required maintenance and construction operations at the Hatchery. Activities and priorities are coordinated with the Hatchery Manager and the SSRAA Facilities Engineer. Responsibilities include performance of preventative maintenance program, repairs as needed to equipment and facilities, construction and fabrication projects as assigned, and maintaining an adequate parts and supplies inventory.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Organize and record maintenance schedules on equipment.
- Perform and supervise preventative maintenance work, scheduled and unscheduled.
- Perform and supervise repairs to equipment and facility.
- Order supplies and parts needed for repair and maintenance.
- Provide maintenance and repair summaries to the Hatchery Manager on a regular basis.
- Provide input on maintenance and repair needs for annual and mid-year budget documents.
- Train personnel in proper maintenance and repair techniques.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Will include fish culture duties.

- NOTES: Job requires travel by boat and plane to remote areas. Work schedule will often include weekends.
