Grounds Maintenance Laborer Location: Yorktown, Virginia (US Coast Guard Training Center) Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt Compensation: $21.24-$21.24/hr. Tessera is seeking a responsible and productive Grounds Maintenance Laborer with a helpful attitude. Typical duties include but are not limited to: Maintain and repair grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property around facilities such as buildings, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields, and provide service on all grounds to ensure that the grounds are clean, safe and attractive. Cut grass using walking-type or commercial grade riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.) Trim hedges and edges around walkways, flowerbeds and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools. Shall water all grass, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, and improve areas when needed. Spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide. Prior to mowing, the employee shall pick up and remove all rubbish, debris, and trash. Seed designated areas to ensure a full, even lawn growth throughout seeded areas Planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs as needed. Clean and maintain buildings, vehicles, tools, and equipment. Building work may include janitorial work, mold removal, and movement/disposal of furnishings and equipment, and other unskilled tasks. Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings. Remove snow from walkways, driveways, roads, or parking lots using shovel and snow blower. Spread salt on walkways and other areas as directed. Assists with repair of roads, walkways, and buildings, and may clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping/blowing, washing, mopping, and polishing. Qualifications: 6 months Facilities/Grounds Maintenance experience is preferred. Physical Requirements: Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties. Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required. Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time. Requirements: Valid state driver license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance carrier. Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
