Responsible To
- Fire Chief
Position Summary
- Under general supervision of the Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal serves as the fire prevention officer for the Fire Department. The position will be responsible for fire prevention inspection program, public fire education, and fire and loss investigations. Responsible for the administration of established policies, procedures, and techniques for fire control and prevention.

Duties/Responsibilities
- · Performs regular fire prevention inspections of building, structures, and residential homes for potential fire and life safety hazards.
- · Responsible for enforcing federal, state, and local fire codes within the City of Danville.
- · Conducts investigation of suspicious or intentional fires.
- · Responsible for maintaining and updating fire department inspection, investigation, and training records.
- · Completes monthly and annual written reports of fire inspections and investigations and is responsible for communicating findings to the Fire Chief and governing body.
- · Plans and coordinates fire prevention activities with shift officers and fire personnel, including pre-incident planning.
- · Required to respond during off duty hours to fire scenes for cause and determination investigations as needed.
- · Responsible for providing support to incident commander on fires and other emergency calls as needed.
- · Plans, organizes, and schedules regular fire prevention programs for school programs, commercial businesses, and community events.
- · Performs other duties as assigned.
- Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities
- · Extensive knowledge of the geography of the City of Danville.
- · Strong situational judgement skills with the ability to apply to the decision-making process..
- · Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- · Extensive knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations
- · Ability to operate fire department vehicles in normal driving and emergency modes.
- · Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and departmental software applications.
- · Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- · Ability to work in a team environment, with the ability to work across all levels of city officials, employees, agencies, organizations, and the general public.
- · Strong emotional intelligent skills with the ability to remain calm under stress.
- · Ability to work a flexible work schedule, that includes nights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand.
Education and Experience
- · HS Diploma or GED
- · Bachelor’s degree in fire science, public administration, or related field is preferred.
- · 5-7 years of experience in fire suppression, fire services, and emergency medical services
- · Working knowledge of emergency management services.
- · Must have valid and current Kentucky driver’s license.
Certifications
- · 400hr KY state fire certification
- · IFSAC Firefighter I and II
- · Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician
- · Kentucky Fire Commission Instructor Level 1
- · Hazardous Material Technician
Physical Requirements
- · Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for the duration of the workday.
- · Twisting, stooping, bending, and crawling on a regular basis.
- · Ability to climb ladders at heights not to exceed 1 story above ground level.
- · Lifting up to 50lbs regularly
- · Must have corrective 20/20 vision.
- · Must have adequate hearing levels in the 250hz to 8000hz range, with or without a prescribed hearing device.
Compensation
- · $60,578 - $85,037 annually
- · Candidate's starting salary with be commensurate with their level of fire service experience.
