  • We provide you with a professionally furnished office and all the necessary resources—you simply show up! You choose your commitment, working a minimum of 6 client hours per week (or as many as you want) to supplement your income or build a primary practice.

  • Alternative Wellness Services is seeking collaborative clinicians to serve clients across the spectrum: from traditional outpatient therapy to those focused on their recovery journey from substance use. We are deeply committed to meeting clients where they are, empowering them through strengths-based, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed care.
  • This Fee-for-Service role allows you to build a versatile and rewarding caseload, working in a traditional outpatient setting while also providing specialized services such as one-time court assessments and required DEEP services. You will be instrumental in guiding diverse clients through crucial stages of change by providing tailored individual therapy and comprehensive clinical assessments. The reimbursement rate is competitive and service-based: traditional OPT sessions are paid at $50-$60 per hour, with DEEP evaluations being our highest reimbursed at $70 per hour. You are only paid for services delivered as evidenced by a billable progress note.

What You'll Do (The Impact)

  • Flexible Caseload: Work with a traditional outpatient population and/or individuals who have substance use experience, providing both standard therapy and court-ordered assessments, meeting a minimum of 6 clients per week.
  • Deliver impactful individual therapy and counseling sessions, utilizing recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Complete DEEP evaluations or individual treatment sessions for clients required to fulfill obligations due to OUI convictions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation and compliance with program and insurance guidelines.
  • Actively collaborate with internal teams and external providers to ensure seamless, coordinated client care.

Who We're Looking For (The Essentials)

  • Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling.
  • Current Clinical Conditional licensure (LMSW-CC or LCPC-C) in Maine required; full licensure (LCSW or LCPC) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in recovery-oriented services, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and co-occurring disorders.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to build strong, positive relationships.
  • Proficiency with EHR software and standard computer programs (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom).
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.

  • Requirements

Who We're Looking For (The Essentials)

  • Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling.

Licensure & Professional Standing

  • Current Maine license as a LMSW-CC, LCPC-C, LCPC, or LCSW is required.
  • We will also consider a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) with relevant experience and a commitment to engaging in ongoing supervision.
  • Must have no active complaints with your professional board or documented malpractice claims.

Location & Work Environment

  • Must be a current Maine Resident or have the ability to reliably commute to and from our offices weekly.
  • Ability to work primarily in our professionally furnished office, with some limited telehealth options available based on client needs.
