See yourself in the team This role is central to leading the design, alignment, and governance of credit risk strategy across Line 1 Credit Risk. You’ll operate as a senior practitioner-leader, combining analytical depth, governance discipline, and influence across stakeholders, leading through expertise and collaboration rather than hierarchy. You’ll partner with Product, Pricing, Distribution, Technology, and Operations to improve speed, consistency, and control across the end-to-end credit lifecycle. Your day could look like (but not limited to): Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of credit strategies across the customer lifecycle, balancing growth, portfolio resilience, and return on equity. Integrate origination, portfolio, and collections performance into a consolidated portfolio view; identify leading indicators and emerging vulnerabilities for proactive action. Partner with Collections to assess delinquency trends and strategy performance, ensuring shared accountability for outcomes impacting losses, provisions, and recoveries. Evaluate and interpret how credit strategies translate into provisioning, charge-offs, recoveries, and capital requirements. Lead uplift of governance standards and operating discipline across the end-to-end change lifecycle, ensuring annual portfolio health checks and FRC obligations are executed. Set direction for how data assets are leveraged for automation and insight, championing innovation that drives speed, consistency, and informed decisioning. Represent Line 1 Credit Risk across key business forums, influencing initiatives to optimise risk and reward. Build and develop a high-performing practitioner cohort by coaching, mentoring, and providing technical direction. Balance strategic thinking with delivery discipline, prioritising initiatives that deliver tangible near-term uplift while building longer-term capability. Communicate complex credit-risk insights in simple, commercial language to equip business leaders for informed decisions. What successful candidates will look like We’re seeking a strategic practitioner-leader with extensive retail credit risk experience across products and the end-to-end credit/loan lifecycle. You’ll be comfortable designing frameworks and delivering analytics, with a proven ability to link strategy, portfolio performance, and financial outcomes. Additional requirements we’re looking for: Extensive retail credit risk experience and proven success leading multi-stream or enterprise-level credit-risk initiatives. Advanced data and analytical expertise (using data analytics programs such as, SAS, R, Python, SQL, Excel), strong conceptual, complex and commercial thinking. Deep understanding of credit-change governance, risk frameworks, and implementation assurance. Demonstratable experience leading and inspiring teams, fostering engagement, and driving collective success. Exceptional stakeholder and influence skills, able to align multiple functions towards shared outcomes. Experience preparing and reviewing governance content for senior audiences. Strategic thinking, commercial awareness, and a mindset focused on pragmatic execution and outcome delivery. A role model for disciplined risk management, innovation, and capability building.
