The faculty is also custodian of the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute, Melbourne Energy Institute, Melbourne Biodiversity Institute, Oceania Institute, Office for Environmental Programs, Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) and the Indigenous Knowledge Institute and home to numerous Centres. Your next career opportunity The University of Melbourne is seeking an outstanding early career researcher or Indigenous knowledge holder to join the Faculty of Science as an Excellence in Diversity Fellow (Indigenous). In this important role, you will have the opportunity to propose and lead innovative research on a topic of your choice, reflecting the broad scope of science in its many forms and ways of knowing. You’ll contribute to high-quality research outputs, present at conferences, and build meaningful collaborations within and beyond the University. This position recognises and values the diverse contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to knowledge and research. You will be supported to share and develop your expertise in a culturally safe, inclusive, and collaborative academic environment. Your responsibilities will include: Conduct Innovative Research: Initiate and carry out high-quality, internationally competitive research in your chosen field, contributing to knowledge generation through various outputs and stakeholder engagements. Foster Collaborations: Build a research program involving collaborations with external organisations, government, community groups, industry, or academia. Contribute to Funding Proposals: Prepare research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies to support your program. Engage in Teaching and Mentoring: Where relevant contribute to teaching, training, scientific mentoring, and supervision of students and junior research staff in your area of expertise. Promote Diversity and Inclusion: Actively participate in activities within the School and Faculty to support diversity and inclusion initiatives. You bring excellent organisational skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, communities, and relevant professional or industry partners. Your experience and perspectives will help strengthen the Faculty’s commitment to respectful engagement with Indigenous knowledge systems and ways of knowing. You may also: Have a demonstrated ability to develop, administer, and complete appropriately designed research projects with limited supervision. Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to present research to public audiences. Demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and high standards of ethics and integrity.
