Job Summary

  • The Environmental Services staff is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the hospital on the assigned shift, and for the completion of any tasks necessary to ensure this cleanliness.

Job Relationships

  • 1. Directly responsible to:  Environmental Services Manager 
  • 2. Staff supervised:  none   
  • 3. Works closely with hospital district leadership and departments as well as internal and external customers. 

Occupational Hazards

  • Works in all areas of the hospital. Routinely exposed to blood and blood products, as well as other body fluids and excretions, and patients in varying stages of infectious states. Required to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays. Exposed to extended periods of moderate to heavy stress.

  • * Provides a clean, safe environment for patients, staff, self and visitors.
  • * Responds promptly to requests for assistance for special cleaning needs.
  • * Utilizes work time appropriately, completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • * Works well independently; consistently meets performance standards without need of close supervision.
  • * Cleans the hospital and clinical environment to standard.
  • * Removes trash and biohazard waste and places in proper locations.
  • * Works together with team members and Leaders to accomplish tasks
  • * Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of

  • * The Mission, Vision, and Values of Northern Inyo Healthcare District; 
  • * NIHD policies and procedures, including Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and Confidentiality standards;
  • * NIHD safety policies and procedures, including the Rainbow Chart, Employee Health, and Infection Prevention standards;

Skills/Abilities to

  • * Basic Computer Skills including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook
  • * Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with NIHD staff and the public;
  • * Establish and maintain professional working relationships with NIHD staff at all levels as well as the public;
  • * Develop and maintain a high degree of maturity, integrity, and good judgement.
  • * Fulfills physical requirements as documented on the attached form
  • * Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • * Flexible, positive, and able to work independently
  • * Must be able to understand, read and write English clearly

Minimum Qualifications

  •             Education: 
  • * High school diploma or GED

Preferred

Experience

  • * Previous environmental services experience, with a good working knowledge of hospital infection control and environmental standards.
